2. In respect to the great family, the genealogy was able to be traced back to great grandparents on the Gonzalez-Blanco side to 1892 in Cartagena, Colombia, South America. The family lead by great grandfather Manuel Gonzalez, at the age of twenty, settled in this coastal city of Colombia in the carribbean waters all the way from Spain to find riches in agriculture, specifically emeralds, that was heard to be a popular find in a new land. They gave birth to grandfather Jose Maria Gonzalez on August 2, 1911. With the business and agricultural influences of his father Manuel, Grandfather Gonzalez is the one that planted the seed amongst this generation that soon migrated from South America to the United States where the family still to this day 120 years later is producing its fruits in medicine and business. 3. Planting the seed • Grandfather Jose Maria Gonzalez was at the top of his class. He attended an all boy, Catholic school, where strict rituals were mandated. We believe this is where his strong character came from and was later diffused in our hereditary leafs in our family tree. He always expected the best, success, and none the less. The boys in this picture were said to always have a strong jaw because they would receive respect back from whomever they would face. The country between 1929-1939 in my grandfather’s youth faced a civil war amongst the conservatives and liberals. Particularly, my grandfather, you could tell his childhood was tough and well-mannered. When he became a father and grandfather, his handshake, strong jaw, mannerisms were also seen amongst his four sons, four daughters, which included my father Jose Maria Gonzalez II. 4. Marriage & Family • Grandfather Jose Maria Gonzalez married my grandmother, Antonia Thelma Blanco at the young ages of eighteen and sixteen on December 5, 1928. Together, they had eight children. My father was the last to be born on November 2, 1949.

6. In 1971, Grandfather Jose Maria Gonzalez was raising a farm full of agricultural needs in Colombia, enriched with cattle, rice, corn, meat, and sugarcane. Daughter Carmen along with her husband after graduating at the University of Cartagena influenced my father and other brothers and sisters to soon move and see the roads paved with gold in America as she first resided in Chicago, Illinois. Grandfather Jose followed their footsteps first, to see where their children’s generation along with his soon to be grandchildren’s future would flourish. He saw abundance in business and the need for health care. He mandated his children to go into these fields of study. And they successfully did. 7. CULTURAL NORMS & VALUES VALUES NORMS • The church and beliefs were rooted Roman Catholic. God was the center of all thanks and the household abundance it received. • Reunion amongst the family was important every year to share its successes and its failures. • Easter week is actually more important than Christmas. • Class status was according to the amount of money in the bank account, not of race or ethnicity. Also, sadly, segregation to this day is of liberal and conservative peoples. • Reason for migration to the United States was to find more of a protestant faith and revelation belief, rather than a redundant one. And the family believed in freedom and the idea of democracy. • Reunion, family, church, God. Everyhing else comes second. This was taught amongst the family.

10. In 1969, my immediate family was created. My father Jose and mother MiryamBustillo married on November 25th, 1968, at the age of eighteen and sixteen. Together they had 4 children including me. Claudia Margarita is married to Efrain Tirado and has five children. Ernesto my brother married Monise Gonzalez and has two children. I was born the 26th of July 1984. They came to the United States with doctorate degrees in Pharmacy and Medicine. Two years later, my sister was born whom has two children today. My father recently took my oldest nephew Efrain to see his first college choice here in Central Florida. As you see from the early days of 1892, til today success was found in growing strong roots and large family quantities to build security in success. Integration and influences of many types of cultures have been accepted because the main tradition and norm was love. This is my Gonzalez-Blanco family tree. There to the right is my Grandfather Jose Maria Gonzalez who migrated to Chicago Illinois in ‘71 with my Grandmother Antonia Blanco, with my father on his graduation from medical school with my mother to the right of him in the photo.
