  2. Burial and Memorial The Department of Veteran Affairs and Department of Defense provide burial and memorial services for eligible active-duty military, retired and Veteran service members.

  3. Dependency and Indemnity Compensation This is a monetary benefit, tax free if a service member died in the line of duty or if an eligible survivor of a Veteran whose death was service related. Depending on eligibility this can be issued to spouse and surviving child.

  4. Death Pension This benefit is also known as Survivors Pension paid to the eligible dependents of a deceased wartime Veteran. This is based on yearly family income and generally payable to low-income, un-remarried spouse and/or unmarried children of a deceased Veteran

  5. Disability Compensation This is a benefit paid to a Veteran due to injuries that happened while on active duty or made worse by active duty. Diseases that occurred during active duty are also covered. Must be honorably discharged.

  6. Special Monthly Compensation Special Monthly Compensation can be obtained in addition to VA Disability Compensation. This generally is limited to Veterans who suffered a loss of extremities or organs.
