Onward Christian Soldiers. November 10 th 2013. Remember What?. I want us to remember the sacrifice of those in the military who have served our country and I want to remind us of our dedication to Christ and the battle that we have been called to fight. Matthew 24:6 (Page 1538).

  2. Remember What? • I want us to remember the sacrifice of those in the military who have served our country and I want to remind us of our dedication to Christ and the battle that we have been called to fight.

  3. Matthew 24:6 (Page 1538) • “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”

  4. Canadian Military Stats: • South Africa War (1899-1902) • – 7000 Served 300 Lives Lost. • WWI – (1914-1918) • 650,000 Served 68,000 Lives Lost. • WWII – (1939-1945) • Over a Million Served 47,000 Lives Lost. • Korean War – (1950-1953) • 26,791 Served 516 Lives Lost.

  5. Lest We Forget: • The Seventh Book of Remembrance, In the Service of Canada. • Over 1,800 Canadian Lives have been lost in Peace Keeping and War since 1953 and September 2012.

  6. Our Veterans: • Second World War • 91,400 their average age is 89. • Korean War • 9,900 their average age is 81. • CF Veterans (Regular Forces and Primary Reserves) • 594,300 their average age is 56.

  7. Remembering • Today we want to honor all our armed service veterans although most of us have never fought for our country. • We do, however, need to be reminded that we are in a battle.

  9. Our Main Passage: • 2 Timothy 2:3-4 on page 1853 reminds us “Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs – he wants to please his commanding officer.” • Our ultimate commander-in-chief is the Lord Jesus Christ!

  10. Spiritual Warfare • Own My Faith. • Laziness. • Apathy. • Self-Indulgent Lifestyle. • Distractions. • Tiredness. • Seeing People Leave. • My Sinfulness. • Rationalization and Justification. • Change Perspective.

  11. How I Focus on the Victory • Focus on the victory that he has already won. • Look to Jesus • Pledge myself to His service • Hear Jesus’ call to keep going – • Onward Christian Soldier – the victory has been won.

  12. Ephesians 6:12 (page 1824) • "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

  13. He is Coming! • If we know that he is coming for us what is our spiritual plan of attack? • Isolation allows room for the wolves to attack and you need the help of some mighty men to keep going.

  14. 1 Peter 5:8-9 (page 1892) James 1:22 Faith!!! • “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

  15. Matthew 10:22 (page 1511) • “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the endwill be saved.”

  16. 2 Timothy 4:7 (page 1855) • Paul says “I have fought the good fight.” • Have you? • Will you keep up the fight until the end? • Will you commit to fighting beside others and reach out? • We thank those who have done so!

  17. A Worthwhile Fight • There are some things are worth fighting for: our freedom in Canada, stopping the oppression of others, and our freedom in Christ!

  18. Onward Christian Soldiers! • God bless Canada! • God bless our veterans! • And God bless the veterans of the Christian faith! • Onward Christian soldiers there is more battle ahead but it is good to know that we have the victory in Jesus.
