Development and Reliability Testing of CHAMP: A Mobility Predictor for Traumatic Lower-Limb Loss

DESCRIPTION

The Comprehensive High-level Activity Mobility Predictor (CHAMP) was developed and validated to assess high-level mobility in servicemembers with traumatic lower-limb loss (LLL). This study established the interrater and test-retest reliability of CHAMP through four specific tests: Single Limb Stance, Edgren Side Step Test, T-Test, and Illinois Agility Test. Findings revealed an intraclass correlation of 1.0 for interrater and 0.97 for test-retest reliability, demonstrating CHAMP as a reliable measure, crucial for evaluating rehabilitation progress and support the return to active duty for wounded servicemembers.

  1. Development and reliability testing of the Comprehensive High-level Activity Mobility Predictor (CHAMP) in servicemembers with traumatic lower-limb loss Robert S. Gailey, PhD, PT; Ignacio A. 2. Aim • Develop and determine reliability of Comprehensive High-level Activity Mobility Predictor (CHAMP). • New outcome measure consisting of Single Limb Stance, Edgren Side Step Test, T-Test, and Illinois Agility Test. • Relevance • Opportunity for wounded servicemembers to return to high-level activity and duty has improved with surgery, rehabilitation, and prosthetic technology advances. • High-level mobility outcome measure needed to assess progress toward high-level mobility during and after rehabilitation.

  3. Method • Reliability determined for servicemembers: • With lower-limb loss (LLL). • Interrater: n = 118; test-retest: n = 111. • Without LLL. • n = 97. • Developed linear system to combine CHAMP items and produce a composite score ranging from 0 to 40, with higher scores indicating better performance.

  4. Results • Intraclass correlation coefficient values: • Interrater: 1.0. • Test-retest: 0.97. • CHAMP score within range for servicemembers without LLL: • 33 points.

  5. Conclusion • CHAMP was found to be a safe and reliable measure of high-level mobility in servicemembers with traumatic LLL.
