  1. Is Suicide Illegal in the UAE? Introduction: In many countries, like the UAE, self-homicide (suicide) and a suicide attempt are considered serious offenses. The penal code law of the UAE (Federal Decree-Law No. (31) of 2021) addresses the crimes related to suicide and suicide attempts. According to the UAE law, it forbids a person from trying to put an end to his/her life, and it is punishable under the law. Legal implication under the UAE law Article 386 of the UAE penal code states that anyone who attempts suicide may be imprisoned for a maximum of six months or fined less than AED five thousand, or both. The same article allows the competent court to send the offender to a designated mental health facility. Further, the law states that the rehabilitation center must be required to provide the doctor's reports on the convicted person's condition at least every six months. Following evaluation with the public prosecutor, the perpetrator may be permitted release from the center if the competent court finds that his mental and physical health are sufficient. Furthermore, the penal code stipulates that anyone who aids or encourages someone to commit suicide may face imprisonment. If the person who committed suicide is a minor or under the age of 18 or lacks the ability or desire to act, it may be considered a serious offense. If the suicide or attempted suicide is caused by mental incapacity or desire, the abettor will be punished with the same penalty as the intentional murder or attempted murder. If anyone is facing such an investigation, they should not hesitate to seek representation from qualified lawyers. Most UAE law firms offer online consultations, which is beneficial for individuals who are unable to visit. Through the online consultation, individuals can explicitly share their concerns with their lawyers, and they can protect your rights and explain the potential consequences. A qualified lawyer can explain your rights and work with you if the police are involved. Online consultations with lawyers are common in the UAE, allowing you to receive legal support from the comfort of your home, even if you are far from a law office. Conclusion: Scheduling an online meeting with a legal consultant in the UAE is a simple process. By following these steps, you can get professional legal advice without leaving your home. This method is convenient, fast, and effective for resolving legal matters.
