  2. Topics • Don’t reinvent the wheel • Get personal • Don’t do it yourself: Spread the wealth… • Odds & Ends 2

  3. Don’t reinvent the wheel • Use existing resources • Membership lists by zip code • NABE website • NABE Speakers bureau & Board members • Find others who want what you want • Ask a lot of questions • NABE Chapter President’s Conference Calls • Other members – what do they want? 3

  4. Get personal • Best: Make the “ask” in person • Harder to say no face-to-face • Better: Phone call • Least: Email • Getting speakers is a personal endeavor 4

  5. Don’t do it yourself: Spread the wealth… • You CAN built it yourself, but it won’t last if there are not other people “on board” • Put them on the Board or give them a title • Don’t be afraid to use undergraduates 5

  6. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit. Harry S. Truman 6

  7. Odds & Ends • Keep it fresh – topics, speakers • Don’t do “business” at the meeting • Schedule a separate meeting or do it via email • Set reasonable meeting schedule • Monthly sound good but is VERY ambitious • Make sure you address WITFM • Share new information • Networking opportunities 7
