  4. We introduce our students to the tourism corporate for our campus placement programme for the year 2011. Placement time is the most important occasion in the lives of students. They are ready to walk in a new territory with dreams in their eyes, prayers on lips and hopes in hearts. IITTM, Delhi takes students under its wings through all India level entrance. It takes due care to nurture its students for the challenges of life. Two years spent on campus with faculty, industry experts and fellow students make them capable of quickly adapting to new roles. Our updated curriculum, teaching practices, practical and field training induce learning that is suitable for the real jobs. Nodal Officer’s Message On behalf of Indian Institute Of tourism and Travel Management, Delhi, it is my pleasure to invite you to our academic campus for conducting campus selection programme for our students, It is my privilege to mention that this institute was established in 2007 and over the years it has earned recognition throughout the tourism industry. The students of this institute are occupying enviable positions in various organizations and have been widely admired by the industry with greater enthusiasm year after year. Our faculty and staff appreciate that the continuing challenge of changing businesses have to be dealt with ingenuity, innovation and social responsibility. Our post-graduate students are provided with world class infrastructure and ample opportunities during their PGDM (TL) program, that acts like a springboard, transforming ‘persons’ into ‘personalities’. Our campus experience prepares the students to continuously learn from each other and carves them to become better leaders. The programs at IITTM are tailored to bring out the best in each student, be it an individual performance or a group task. Invitation It gives me immense pleasure to invite you for the placements 2011 addressing the 4th batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Leisure) at Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Pusa, New Delhi. Our students have undergone rigorous training and have experienced practical exposure in varied fields including Tour Operations, Tourism Marketing, Travel and Trade, Event Planning and Management and Adventure Tourism. They have been exposed to the basic realities and problems faced by the tourism sectors through a field component in various organizations. In additional, they have been given an opportunity to specialize in their field of interest; Travel Trade, Events Management and Adventure Tourism. This gives them a chance to enhance their skills in their area of interest and to gain a sound knowledge of those subjects in particular. This is a step taken by the institute keeping in mind the demands of the industry and the growing need for expertise in the sector. Our students have been absorbed in various sectors of the industry and have made the institute proud of the work in many fields. We have consistently received an overwhelming response from organization response from organizations which have absorbed our past students. I am confident that our students would be able to contribute significantly towards the organization.   7. Why IITTM ? Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is one of the premier institutes in the country offering education, training, research and consultancy in sustainable management of tourism, travel and other allied sectors. The stakeholders’ realization that the country is in need of such professionals who can provide an excellent standard of products and services, resulted in the creation of IITTM in 1983 at New Delhi. It is devoted to the pursuit of higher knowledge in tourism and its dissemination to a diverse audience. • Over the years, Institute has established a distinguished identity of its own and reached at a commanding position among sectoral B-Schools in the country. • With its focus in meeting the changing needs of the tourism industry, it has played a pioneering role in the propagation and professionalization of tourism education. • The management of the Institute is entrusted in the hands of the Board of Governors having the Union Minister for Tourism as its Chairperson. • Having set the benchmark in Tourism sector, IITTM begun the journey to define excellence in field of ever expanding Service sector. IITTM, with its vast resource pool and enormous experience will set trends and create new paths which will set the pattern to be followed in future.

The target groups of its educational/ training programmes extend much beyond the organized sectors of the economy. • IITTM Endeavour's to nurture professional and managerial excellence, social and cultural sensitivity, moral and ethical responsibility with concern for the environment and strive for latest techniques to develop decision making abilities with a resolute approach towards productivity, excellence, innovation and value for others to enable its participants to keep pace with the changing scenario of the economy and its environs. • The faculty, staff, students and the administration of the Institute contribute to the building up an organizational culture marked by team spirit, confidence, mutual respect and concern for others. The students of the regular courses and the participants of various training programmes enrich the culture of the Institute with their diverse background and experience. • IITTM welcomes people working at different levels to attend MDPs and various tailor-made training programmes in IITTM centres at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar, New Delhi, Goa and Nellore as well as in other parts of the country.

  9. Upcoming IITTM centre at Noida. IITTM, New Delhi Keeping in view the phenomenal growth of Indian Tourism business, a strong necessity was felt for grooming more number of world class manpower. Therefore, to meet the requirements of the travel trade, another initiative was taken by Ministry of Tourism to establish another wing of IITTM in the Nation capital region. At present the centre is functioning from the 3rd and 4th floors of the new building at Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi. Ten acres of land has been allotted by the Ministry of Tourism at Nodia (A35-36) Sector 62 for setting up the IITTM Campus. The centre was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Tourism and Culture and the Chairperson of IITTM on 18th January 2007. The Institute is devoted to the pursuit of higher knowledge in tourism and its dissemination to a diverse audience. With its focus in meeting the changing needs of tourism industry, it aims towards propagation of professionalization in tourism education.   10. The Mission To carry out state-of-the-art research and impart world class tourism education. O achieve this, following objectives have been identified. • To make efforts to contribute to creation of knowledge related to tourism and allied areas. • To disseminate knowledge and impart necessary skills related to tourism and allied areas. • To contribute directly to society by reaching out directly to community. • To make efforts to grow as an institution of national importance. • To make efforts to be more efficient in internal operations. The Faculty “The teaching is a Profession that teaches you all the Professions” The faculty is the bedrock of any institute. IITTM has been able to carve a niche for itself amongst the mushrooming learning centre's of tourism education by having the most resourceful & highly dedicated team of faculty members. IITTM has a team of qualified and highly motivated faculty having diverse disciplinary background. We believe that it is the teacher’s morals and values that inculcate the best learning and determination to its students. Our learning is based on interactive sessions combined with classroom lectures from in house faculties, guest faculties from business colleges and eminent professionals from the Trade. Various teaching pedagogical methods includes PowerPoint presentations, group discussions, role plays, case methods, assignments and field visits.

  11. The Board of Governors As per the constitution of IITTM, there is a Board of Governors for the Institute, which is the highest executive body of the Institute. It is the function of the Board, to carry out and monitor objectives of the Institute. The board is responsible for the organization, general superintendence, direction and control of the activities of the Institute. The composition of the Board of Governors is as follows:

  12. International Collaborations Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management has played a key role in the development of tourism education in Asia and the Pacific Region. It has also played an important role in setting up the network of Asia Pacific Education and Training Institutes in Tourism (APETIT), promoted by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). IITTM has utilized this platform in a big way to encourage, develop and facilitate join activities in the field of common interest mainly through exchange of faculty and students amongst member institutions. The Institute is an association member of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since the early days of its inception. IITTM is in process to tie-up with a few foreign universities for exchange of faculty and students to promote a holistic approach and research culture within the campus premises. Distinguished academicians and eminent scholars from foreign universities have been visiting the institute to participate in workshops, seminars and other events regularly.

  13. PGDM (Tourism & Leisure) The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Leisure) is a two year full time AICTE approved programme. IITTM, New Delhi Campus is the pioneer Institute in the country to provide Post Graduate program in Tourism and Leisure to cater to the needs of leisure market in Tourism and Leisure Sector. The program is systematically divided into four semesters. Out of the 2 years, around 8 months are allotted to the Industry exposure and practical experience so that by the completion of the course the students are well versed with the practical intricacies of the Industry. The course structure has been designed in consultation with various experts from the industry.

Specializations The course offers dual specialization in the following areas: • Travel Trade • Events Management • Adventure Tourism The specialization is offered from the second semester onwards and effective consideration is given to the practical aspects of the specialization offered to the students. Steps are taken to ensure that the students also get valuable inputs from the various speakers of the industry in their given specialization.   17. Student’s Off Campus Activities Students have also been actively taking part in various field exposures offered by the institute for their holistic intellectual growth & development. Few of the Events where students have already made a benchmark in a very short span of time are: • Commonwealth Games 2010, New Delhi. • TTF-OTM Fair held at Hotel Ashoka, New Delhi organized by Fairfest Media Pvt. Ltd. • International Conference on Tourism and Technology, IT, New Delhi. Apart from this students have been actively involved in various Extra Curricular Activities like: • Delhi Half Marathon. • Clean Delhi – NCR Drive. • Field study visit to Surajkund Craft Mela. • Field study visit to National Museum. • Field study visit to UNESCO sites of Delhi. • Study visit to Indian Mountaineering Foundation • Study visit to Travel Agencies and Adventure Tour Operators. • Visit to Neemrana, Rajasthan for Zipping. • Various committees like cultural society, quiz society, debate society and editorial team have been formed to give a buzz to fortnight to interact and discuss about the latest upcoming activities to be conducted. • Personality development and grooming classes are organized from time to time by the institute to provide them handy tips to improve their personality and tune them to become better professional of the trade. • Undertook 8 days Elementary Skiing Course organized by AtalBihariVajpyee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali.

  18. Summer Internship Program 2011 The placement cell assists students in planning their career and facilitates their entry into jobs, which matches their interest. It serves as a channel of communication between students and organizations to recruit students on and off campus. This year all desirous students were placed both in domestic and multinational companies during the institute interface program in the period of May-July 2011.
