  1. CSTB-1 CubeSat Testbed 1

  2. Topics of Interest • Developed by Boeing • Launched on DNEPR Rocket • Payload • Four microcontrollers • Redundant radios • Deployable antenna • Sun sensors • Magnetometer • Magnetorquers • Power System

  3. Development • Developed by Boeing as a testbed for miniaturization of power and communication systems for larger satellites "These satellites can quickly and inexpensively test miniature, low-power components and subsystems to help reduce the power requirements and weight of larger satellites.“ - Scott MacGillivray Manager of Boeing Nano-satellite program

  4. DNEPR Launch • Launched April 17th, 2007 • DNEPR LV (EgyptSat) • Launched out of Baikonur, Kazakhstan into a sun-synchronous orbit • Deployed by P-Pod in position 3

  5. Payload • 4 Microcontrollers • Redundant communications system (2 radios) • Deployable antenna • Sun sensors • Magnetometer • Magnetorquers • Power System "On-orbit tests of CubeSats like CSTB1 can be conducted years earlier than larger satellites and at considerably less cost than Earth-based testing. Nano-satellites also are less costly to develop and deploy than larger satellites and can piggy back on rockets launching larger payloads.“ - Scott MacGillivray Manager of Boeing Nano-satellite program
