Welcome To Second Grade!

Join us in second grade as we strive to help each child reach their full learning potential, provide a safe and supportive learning environment, and have fun while we learn. We will focus on higher-level thinking strategies, development of self-confidence, and various subjects such as math, language arts, science, and social studies. Specials schedules include PE, music, library, and art. We will explore units on community, character counts, life cycles, and more. Expectations include completed assignments and legible handwriting. Volunteer opportunities and communication through Thursday folders and agenda books are encouraged.

  2. Our Goals for Our Second Grade Family • To help each child reach their full learning potential by being risk-takers • To provide a safe and supportive learning environment • To have fun while we learn • To develop higher level thinking strategies • To develop self confidence

  3. Our Daily Schedule • 9:15-10:40: Math • 10:45-11:25: Specials • 11:30-12:00: Word Study/Fluency/Writing • 12:00-12:50: Lunch/Recess • 12:55-3:00 Language Arts • 3:00-3:40: Social Studies/Science • 3:40: Dismissal

  4. Specials Schedules • Monday: P.E. • Tuesday: P.E. • Wednesday: Music and Library • Thursday: Art and Music • Friday: Art *Remember* -Wear sneakers on PE days. -Bring books to return on Library day.

  8. Expectations • Classwork: Assignments must be completed and turned in on time. Unfinished assignments may be sent home to complete, in addition to homework assignments. • Homework: This is time to practice and monitor independent application of classroom skills. Please notify me if it is taking longer than 20min. a night to complete.  • Handwriting: Students will be expected to write legibly at all times. • Preparedness: All children need to be ready for instruction by 9:15 a.m. • “Owl” About Respect • Respecting Others • Respecting Property • Respecting Yourself

  9. Volunteer Opportunities Any assistance you can offer in one or more of our classrooms is welcomed!  We will be running low on tissue boxes, dry erase markers, and Ziploc bags (quart and gallon) in the near future. Any donations for your child’s classroom are greatly appreciated.

  10. Communication • Thursday Folders: Must be signed and returned every Friday. • Agenda Books: The students will write their homework assignments in their agenda books daily.
