Nutritional deficiencies (3.1%) Pneumonia (9.0%) Anemia (0.5%) Other ARIs (1.5%) Meningitis (1.1%) Diarrhea (7.8%) Other causes (72.9%) More than 480,000 children under five continue to die each year in the Region of the Americas. Other infectious diseases (4.0%) • Infectious diseases, acute respiratory infections (ARIs) and nutritional problems are the cause of 27% of these deaths. • Pneumonia and diarrhea continue among the five main causes of death in children under five.
