Apple in the Dark. What do you see without light?. Problem: What are we trying to find out?. In the absence of light, how much can you see?. Hypothesis. If you are in a totally dark room (with no light at all) you will see nothing. Materials: Red apple and a completely dark room or closet.

  1. Apple in the Dark What do you see without light?

  2. Problem: What are we trying to find out? • In the absence of light, how much can you see?

  3. Hypothesis • If you are in a totally dark room (with no light at all) you will see nothing.

  4. Materials: Red apple and acompletely dark room or closet

  5. Manipulated Variable We changed the apple’s exposure to light.

  6. Procedure • Take red apple • Turn off all lights • Block any light entering room (or closet) with tape, paper, towels, etc. • Enter room or closet with no windows • Wait for eyes to adjust

  7. Conclusion: What did you learn? Was your hypothesis correct? • Our hypothesis was correct. • You can see nothing without light • To see even a shadow or an outline, we need some light.
