  2. What is weather? Weather is made up of different things. Here are some of them: Wind direction. Sunshine. Wind force. Clouds. Precipitation. Visibility. Temperature.

  3. Wind Direction North West East South

  4. Name a country to the North. Wind Direction Name a country to the South.

  5. Wind Direction • North wind comes from the North. • South wind comes from the South. • East wind comes from the East. • West wind comes from the West.

  6. Wind Vanes The arrow on a wind vane shows the direction that the wind has come from. This wind is blowing from the North

  7. Wind Force Sir Francis Beaufort made a list of all the different strengths of winds. This is called the Beaufort Wind Scale.

  8. Wind Force Wind can be: • Calm • Gentle • Moderate • Strong • Gale

  9. Measuring Wind Force We use an anemometer to measure wind force.

  10. Precipitation Precipitation: water that falls from the sky. SNOW RAIN HAIL SLEET

  11. Precipitation We use a rain gauge to see how much rain falls.

  12. Temperature • The temperature tells us how hot or cold it is. • In Ireland we measure temperature in degrees Celsius. • Short for Celsius is °C

  13. Temperature • Temperatures less than 0 are cold. • Temperatures more than 0 are getting warmer. • The highest temperature ever recorded in Ireland was 33 °C

  15. Visibility • Visibility is about what we can see. CLEAR MISTY FOGGY

  16. Visibility • Fog is a cloud that forms close to the ground.

  17. Sunshine • The sun rises in the morning. The sunshine is weaker. • The sun is at its highest point in the sky at midday. The sunshine is stronger. • The sun sets in the evening. The sunshine is weaker. MIDDAY EVENING MORNING

  18. Clouds • There are many different types of clouds. Cirrus Cumulus Stratus Cumulonimbus

  19. Clouds Cirrus clouds are thin, whispy clouds. They allow sunlight through.

  20. Clouds Stratus clouds are like sheets of cloud. They do not allow sunlight through. They cause dull days.

  21. Clouds Cumulus clouds are like pieces of cauliflower.

  22. Clouds Cumulonimbus clouds are large grey storm clouds.

  23. Sayings about Weather • Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors warning. • Rain before seven, fine by eleven. • A sun shiny shower, won’t last half an hour. • Clear moon, frost soon. • When bees stay close to the hive, rain is close by.
