  2. Summary David “Davy” Crockett (1786-1836) is a well known frontiersman from Tennessee and was made famous by his patriotism in the battle of The Alamo. He held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in one of Tennessee’s militias, but in 1835 he bid farewell to the land of Tennessee and started a new life in Texas. He loved this life so much that he wrote to his daughter back in Tennessee, "I would rather be in my present situation than to be elected to a seat in Congress for life." One month later, he and fellow Texans joined to defend The Alamo.

  3. Birth Davy Crockett was born on August 17, 1786, in what is now northern Tennessee.

  4. Family Davy Crockett was the 5th of nine children born to John and Rebecca Crockett. He married Polly Finley (m. 1806-1815) and Elizabeth Patton (m. 1815-1836). He had six children: Margaret Finley Crockett, William Finley Crockett, John Wesley Crockett, Robert Crockett, Rebecca Crockett, and Matilda Crockett.

  5. Career Before joining the Texan army, Crockett was a politician for Tennessee. He then moved to the Texas frontier and later fought in The Alamo.

  6. Service Crockett served in a Tennessee militia for quite some time. He then moved to Texas, joined its army (which was under Andrew Jackson), and fought for Texas independence.

  7. Description/fact Davy Crockett is often seen with his iconic coon hat. He wore suits in formal meetings and animal hide clothing in battle. He showed heroism and many other traits. At age 13, Crockett got in a fight at school. Instead of going home to his father (who wouldn’t be too happy), he went to the woods. 3 years later he went home.

  8. Death David Crockett died March 6,1836 at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio. Whether he died in action or was executed by Santa Anna’s army, his death will always be remembered.
