  2. Expository Writing PROMPT: When the Spanish explorers entered Alabama, they didn’t actually make friends with the Indians. Think back on what you have learned about the discovery of Alabama. How do you think the Spanish explorers treated the Indians? Give reasons to explain your answer.

  5. Expository Writing • The next step in completing your outline is to complete your triangles. • Your triangles are the 3 different reasons for your opinion. • Be sure to always begin triangle paragraphs with transition words such as first, second, third, next, another, final, last

  6. Possible reasons (triangles) I think the Indians were unkind. •They only wanted wealth, not friendship. •They bullied them. •They were demanding. •They wanted the Indians to be frightened of them. •They didn’t care about the Indians health. •They thought they were superior to the Indians.

Expository Writing: Introduction 1st Sentence: Hook How would you treat a group of people you had never met before? 2nd Sentence: Statement or answer to the Hook using your topic (rectangle) I would treat them with kindness, but not the Spanish explorers. They were extremely unkind to the Indians of Alabama. 3rd Sentence: Sentence about your topic (include your 3 triangles : reasons) I think the Spanish were unkind because they only wanted wealth, they bullied the Indians, and they frightened them on purpose. 4th Sentence:MOPSI sentence about the topic (rectangle) The Spanish were as mean as hornets to the Indians. 5th Sentence: Effect--- “After you read my explanation, …” After you read my explanation, you will feel sorry for the Indians and how they were mistreated.

They were extremely unkind to the Indians of Alabama. I think the Spanish were unkind because they only wanted wealth, they bullied the Indians, and they frightened them on purpose. The Spanish were as mean as hornets to the Indians. After you read my explanation, you will feel sorry for the Indians and how they were mistreated.

For example, they came to the New World in search of gold and silver. These explorers from Spain were as greedy as a two year old at its birthday party. They only wanted wealth, which means they didn’t care about forming any kind of a friendship with the Indians.

By bullying the Indians with so many demands, they never treated the Indians with the respect they deserved.

The Spanish scared the Indians by brandishing their sharp, shiny swords into the air.They knew that they frightened the Indians by their appearance, but they didn’t care because they wanted to continue to be superior to them.

Expository Writing: Conclusion 1st Sentence: Write a statement about the topic I am saddened by the way the Indians were treated by the Spanish explorers that barged their way into Alabama. 2nd Sentence: List the 3 triangles (reasons) I would describe these explorers as unkind because I know they were only interested in wealth, they bullied the Indians, and they frightened them with their appearance. 3rd Sentence: Effect Now that you have read my explanation, I am sure that you agree with my opinion of how the Spanish behaved poorly. 4th Sentence: Another statement about the topic to bring it to a close I bet things would have been different if their mothers would have been exploring alongside them. Mind your manners!

  23. Expository Writing: Conclusion(5th Paragraph) I am saddened by the way the Indians were treated by the Spanish explorers that barged their way into Alabama. I would describe these explorers as unkind because I know they were only interested in wealth, they bullied the Indians, and they frightened them with their appearance. Now that you have read my explanation, I am sure that you agree with my opinion of how the Spanish behaved poorly. I bet things would have been different if their mothers would have been exploring alongside them. Mind your manners boys!
