What is the Doctrine of the Trinity? “The fundamental proof that God is a Trinity is supplied thus by the fundamental revelation of the Trinity in fact: that is to say, in the incarnation of God the Son and the outpouring of God the Holy Spirit. In a word, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are the fundamental proof of the doctrine of the Trinity. This is as much as to say that all the evidence of whatever kind, and from whatever source derived, that Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh, and that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, is just so much evidence for the doctrine of the Trinity; and that when we go to the New Testament for evidence of the Trinity we are to seek it; not merely in the scattered allusions to the Trinity as such, numerous and instructive as they are, but primarily in the whole mass of evidence which the New Testament provides of the Deity of Christ and the Divine personality of the Holy Spirit. When we have said this, we have said in effect that the whole mass of the New Testament is evidence for the Trinity. For the New Testament is saturated with evidence of the Deity of Christ and the Divine personality of the Holy Spirit.” (B. B. Warfield)

  29. Trinity..? So What..?! • Be HUMBLE and WORSHIP God * Colin Buchanan & Carl Trueman … “just bow down and worship!” * Don’t feel embarrassed you can’t explain or prove it * But.. Who would have invented it?

  30. Trinity..? So What..?! • Be GLAD that in essence God is LOVE * Why are relationships & love important? * No room for love in atheistic evolution etc * One person alone cannot love * God is not self-centred* Happiness is in other-centredness * The love within the Trinity is offered to us

  31. Trinity..? So What..?! • Be GLAD that in essence God is LOVE He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. (Colossians 1:15-20)

  32. Trinity..? So What..?! • Be GLAD that in essence God is LOVE I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:20-24)

So What..?! • Be GLAD that in essence God is LOVE * Why are relationships & love important? * No room for love in atheistic evolution etc * One person alone cannot love * God is not self-centred* Happiness is in other-centredness * The love within the Trinity is offered to us * Does your life show the love of the Trinity?

  34. Trinity..? So What..?! • Be UNASHAMED to SERVE others * Members of the Trinity are not de-valued by submitting to others * Are you ready to serve? In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" (Acts 20:35)
