  2. Thesis Statement AIDS is a huge issue around the world that people have been trying to find a cure for, for a long, long time.

  3. How do you guys think STD’s are transferred from person to person?

When were AIDS discovered? • Scientists were trying to figure out about AIDS around the 1980’s. • They already knew what it was, they just didn’t know all about it. • They found a test tube with a man’s blood from about 40 years before. • They tested it and found it to be HIV positive. • Scientists think that AIDS originally started from monkeys.

When AIDS were discovered cont. • It wasn’t any normal type of AIDS either. • It was the Leopoldville sample which is the oldest type of HIV. • Scientists wanted to solve the mystery of how AIDS transferred from monkeys to humans. • Study shows that AIDS originated from the 50’s to even the 40’s. • Over the last 10 years, scientists have discovered 15 different subtypes of AIDS.

Symptoms of AIDS • After about a couple weeks in some people, they start getting flu like symptoms (fever, headache, tiredness, and enlarged lymph glands in the neck. • These symptoms usually just disappear in a few weeks. • Some people don’t even have symptoms for up to 10 years. • During this time period though, the virus is killing our cells and trying to shut down our vital organs and weakens our immune system.

Symptoms of AIDS cont. • After the virus weakens our immune system, more severe symptoms occur (lack of energy, weight loss, frequent sweating and fevers, frequent yeast infections, skin rashes/ flaky skin, short-term memory loss, and mouth, genital, or anal sores from Herpes). • AIDS is the most advanced stage of the HIV infection. • When almost every organ is effected, even worse symptoms occur (cough and shortness of breath, seizures and lack of coordination, difficulty or pain swallowing, severe diarrhea, vision loss, nausea, or even a coma).

  8. How you get HIV/AIDS • You can get AIDS when an infected person’s bodily fluids (blood, semen, breast milk, etc.) enter your bloodstream. • It can enter the bloodstream through linings in the mouth, anus, sex organs, or through open skin. • Common ways people get an HIV is through sharing needles to take drugs and through unprotected sex with an infected person.
