  3. STANDARDS AND MODEL/ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Identify the school counseling standards and model to be used by all districts in Louisiana • Clearly define the roles and responsibilities of school counselors

  4. STATE INFRASTRUCTURE/ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Provide an infrastructure at the state level that will support and enhance school counselors in Louisiana Provide meaningful professional development reflective of the LaSCM Evaluate school counseling programs and school counselors at the district and school levels

  5. SCHOOL COUNSELOR CERTIFICATION • Change state certification policy for school counseling

  6. SCHOOL COUNSELOR PREPARATION Change school counselor preparation programs to align with new certification policy

  7. COMMUNICATION • Have State leaders clearly articulate the identified roles and responsibilities of school counselors to districts and schools.

  8. BEST PRACTICES • Provide schools and districts with best practices to prepare students in PK-20 for college and career readiness planning.

  9. COUNSELOR CERTIFICATION • Ancillary certification • Teaching certification

  10. Ability to deal with ambiguity, problem solving capabilities, leadership potential • Ability to use data effectively and promote college and career readiness

  11. POST SECONDARY EDUCATION • Counseling Program • CACREP external review process for colleges/universities that are not yet nationally accredited

  12. STATE SCHOOL COUNSELING REP • Counseling Supervisor at the LDOE

  13. SCHOOL COUNSELING ADVOCACY • Advocating for students access to rigorous academic preparation and college and career readiness counseling • Spending more time on target activities promoting student success, including career counseling and exploration, student academic planning, and building a college and career culture

  14. Advocating for additional support, time and empowerment for leadership to give students what they need • Continuing to provide school counselors a voice in education reform, and research to guide policies and practical tools to ensure every student is college and career ready to meet the demands of the workforce economy

  15. LaSCM • Codifying standard documents as a separate policy bulletin • Revise Bulletin 741 policy and align with state accountability policy

  16. TASKFORCE UPDATE • Using Missouri Comprehensive Counseling Program • Content standards , GLE, Personal and Social Development • Activity (Big idea #7)
