Born on October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas, Dwight D. Eisenhower was a Republican leader who made significant contributions both as a military commander and as the 34th President of the United States. Graduating from West Point, he commanded Allied forces on D-Day during WWII and later became the president of Columbia University. Eisenhower ran for president in 1952 with the popular slogan “I Like Ike,” defeating Adlai Stevenson twice. His administration tackled civil rights issues and foreign policy challenges, including the Korean War. He also initiated major domestic policies, including the Interstate Highway System.
