  2. Sunshine State Standards • Geometry and Spatial Sense • Standard 1: The student describes, draws, identifies, and analyzes two- and three-dimensional shapes. (MA.C.1.2) • 1. Given a verbal description, draws and/or models two- and three-dimensional shapes and uses appropriate geometric vocabulary to write a description of a figure or a picture composed of geometric figures. • Standard 2: • The student visualizes and illustrates ways in which shapes can be combined, subdivided, and changed. (MA.C.2.2) • 1. Understands the concepts of spatial relationships, symmetry, reflections, congruency, and similarity • 2. Predicts, illustrates, and verifies which figures could result from a flip, slide, or turn of a given figure.

  3. Background Information • Geometry • 3rd grade • Math • To teach the difference between 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes. • To have each child be able to name each different shape and know how many sides, faces and vertex each shape has.

  4. Lesson Plan • YouTube Video- http://youtu.be/K9L9l86N-xM

  5. Lesson • Teaching – Difference between 2D and 3D shapes. • Interaction – Group activities and or team games. • Smart Board- Children will be able to take turns using the smart board for practice.

  7. 2-D Shapes Height Length 2-D has length and height. All 2-D shapes have an area but no depth (they are all flat)

  8. 2 Dimensional Shapes

  9. 3-D Shapes Height Depth Length 3-D Shapes are all solids

  10. 3-D Shapes 3-D shapes have: • faces (sides) • edges • vertices or vertex (corners). With the exception of the Sphere which doesn’t have any.

  11. 3 Dimensional Shapes

  12. Summary - Conclusion
