Who Brought The Slaves? • “Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia [John Hawkins, an English navigator], in 1619, to aid in the production of such lucrative crops as tobacco.   5. Why Sugarcane? •  Sugar was the most important of the overseas commodities that made up a third of Europe's entire economy. As technologies got more efficient and diverse, adding molasses and rum to the trade stock made many countries wealthy.

  8. Triangular Trade Logic • Took simple necessities to Africa and traded for Slaves. • Took the Slaves to America and traded for luxuries and cotton. • Took the luxuries and cotton to Britain and traded for the simple necessities to take to Africa. The cycle just continues over and over again.
