  3. Geography • Warsaw is the capital of Poland and its largest city • It is located by the Vistula river roughly 370 km from both the Baltic Sea coast and the Carpathian Mountains • Warsaw is the 7th biggest city in the European Union

  4. Warsaw's climate is continental humid • The average yearly temperature is 8 degrees Celsius (−2 °C in January, and +18 °C in July) • Temperatures may often reach +30 °C in the summer • Yearly rainfall averages at 680 millimetres (most rainy month is July)

  8. NATIONAL THEATRE National Theater was founded in Poland by its last monarch, Stanisław August Poniatowski, in Warsaw in 1765, during the Polish Enlightenment. Suspended after the November Uprising (1830), Teatr Narodowy was recreated in the SecondPolish Republic in 1924. The quality of Teatr Narodowy was adversely affected by government pressure during the time of the People's Republic of Poland (1945-1989).

  9. THE PALACE OF CULTURE AND SCIENCE The Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw is the tallest building in Poland and the world's 164th tallest building. The building was originally known as the Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science, but in the wake of destalinization the dedication was revoked; Stalin's name was hastily removed from the interior lobby and one of the building's sculptures.

  10. OLD TOWN Warsaw's Old Town is the oldest historic district of the city. The heart of the area is the Old Town Market Place, with its traditional Polish restaurants, cafés and shops. Surrounding streets feature medieval architecture such as the city walls, barbican and St. John's Cathedral.

  11. THE ROYAL CASTLE The Royal Castle is the royal palace and official residence of the Polish monarchs. The personal offices of the king, as well as the administrative offices of the Royal Court of Poland were located there until the Partitions of Poland.It is located at the Plac Zamkowy, at the entrance to the Old Town. During the World War II the palace was the seat of the Polish president.

  12. PRESIDENTIAL PALACE Presidential Palace is the elegant classicist buildong. The latest version of a building has stood on the Krakowskie Przedmieście site since 1643. Over the years, it has been rebuilt and remodeled many times.

  13. ŁAZIENKI PARK AND PALACE ON THE WATER The Łazienki Park is the largest park in Warsaw, sitting on 80 hectares of land in the middle of the city. The park lies in the part of town called Śródmieście, on the Ujazdowski avenues, to the southern part of the so-called "king's tract", which runs from the castle toWilanów. In the north the park borders Ujazdowski Castle, which is on the other side of the Agrikola.

  14. WILANÓW Wilanów is a borough of Warsaw. It is home to the historic Wilanów Palace - the "Polish Versailles", and a second home to many Polish kings. It has for ages been a suburb of Warsaw and a popular holiday spot for Polish magnates. It was also the final point on the historical Royal Road.

NATIONAL MUSEUM The National Museum in Warsaw, was established in May 20, 1862, as the "Museum of Fine Arts, Warsaw," and in 1916 renamed "National Museum in Warsaw" (with the inclusion of collections from museums and cultural institutions such as the Society of Care for Relics of the Past, the Museum of Antiquity at Warsaw University, the Museum of the Society for Encouragement of the Fine Arts, and the Museum of Industry and Agriculture).

  16. WARSAW UPRISING MUSEUM The Museum sponsors research into the history of the Warsaw revolt of 1944, and the history and possessions of the Polish "resistance state". It collects and maintains artefacts from the Uprising; and has many interesting exhibits.
