  1. The Cloistered Poor Clare Nuns By: Ashleigh Respondeck, Briana Skrzycki, Brigette Close

  2. Founder: • The Cloistered Poor Clare Nuns is an order that was founded by Clare of Assisi. • Clare was beautiful and rich. However, she was not allowed to preach with Francis or beg with him door to door. • She was inspired by Francis and asked him for advice on what to do with her money. This is how the Cloistered Poor Ladies, later known as Poor Clare’s, began.

  3. The order’s Mission: • Clare wanted to show that you can find happiness in silence and prayer with God. The order wanted to show that you do not need secular things to be happy. • She had a mission to be God’s and let Him shine through her on all the darkness of misery in the world. • Clare’s mission field was the world and everyone in it. Although she would not be able to see the entire world.

  4. Life of a Cloistered woman: • There was not singing, laughing, or men allowed in the order. • Poor Clare’s lived by working in silence and in prayer. • The women stepped away from the world in order to get a better perspective on life. • They are concerned of not only wars, but also small bickering that may harm the peace of families.

  5. Life continued: • The women consecrate their virginity and womanhood to a Divine Lover. • Just as a husband and wife exchange vows and rings, a nun will do the same. • The church gives them a ring and says, “Receive this ring that marks you as a bride of God.” She is then wedded to God.

  6. Requirements: • High school education is required in order to be a nun. • College education or experience in a special field is not required, but could be an asset. • Women are expected to bring clothes and accessories, if they are able to, but do not need financial dowry. • No one is refused because of lack of means, but they have to have a willing heart, teachable mind, and pliable character.
