  1. The “ONE” Baptism Ephesians 4:4,5

  2. Baptisms In The Bible • Baptism of John – Luke 3:3; Acts 19 • Holy Spirit – Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:4,5 • Promised to apostles – not a command • Baptism of great commission • Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 10:47,48 • This is the “one” baptism of Ephesians 4:5 • It’s an obvious fact that some who have been “baptized” have not been baptized with the one baptism.

  3. Element of the one baptism • Water • Acts 8:36-39; 10:47

  4. Action of the one baptism • What men say: • “Let every adult person, and the parents of every child to be baptized, have the choice of sprinkling, pouring or immersion.”(Discipline of The Methodist Church)

  5. Action of the one baptism • Burial • Romans 6:3,4; Colossians 2:12; Acts 8:38 • Definition of “baptizo” • “to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge” (Thayer’s lexicon)

  6. Action of the one baptism • “It is altogether probable that the apostle in this place had allusion to the custom of baptizing by immersion. This cannot, indeed, be proved, so as to be liable to no objection; but I presume that this is the idea which would strike the great mass of unprejudiced readers.”Albert Barnes – comments on Romans 6:4

  7. Subjects of the one baptism • Believers • Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12, 36, 37 • Penitent believers • Acts 2:38 • Infants unable to do either

  8. Purpose of the one baptism • To be saved – Mark 16:16; 1 Peter 3:21 • For remission of sins – Acts 2:38 • “eis” – “unto, to, towards” • “gar” – v. 39 “because, reason”

  9. Purpose of the one baptism • Wash away sins – Acts 22:16 • Into Christ – Galatians 3:27; Romans 6:3 • Into one body – 1 Corinthians 12:13 • Can not be taught wrong; end up in wrong body (church) and somehow be baptized right. • Some claim to be baptized into one body but were members of some denomination

  10. What Must I Do To Be Saved? • Hear the gospel (Romans 10:17) • Believe Jesus is Christ (Acts 8:37) • Repent of your sins (Acts 17:30) • Confess your faith (Matthew 10:32) • Baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) • Faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10)
