A LITTLE ABOUT OB/GYN… • Diversified specialty concerned with the delivery of medical and surgical care to women. • Combines two specialties: • Obstetrics: care of women before, during, and after childbirth • Gynecology: diagnosis & treatment of disorders of the female reproductive system, breasts, and associated disorders • OB/GYN’s are primary care physicians, with whom female patients have regular contact and obtain medical advice and counseling. • OB/GYN’s often serve as consultants to other physicians. • Offers opportunities to practice other skills such as laparoscopic surgery, endocrinology, and preventive medicine.
BOARDED FELLOWSHIPS • Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery • 2 to 3 years • Treat disorders of genitourinary system - surgery, cystoscopy, and urodynamics • Gynecologic Oncology • 3-4 years • Manage and treat cancers of the reproductive system - surgery, chemotherapy, and palliative care. • Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility • 3 years • Treat hormonal and infertility problems - laparoscopic surgery and in vitro fertization. • Maternal-Fetal Medicine • 3 years • Treat routine and high-risk obstetrical cases - obstetric ultrasonography and fetal procedures.
