Collaborative Initiative for Paediatric HIV Education and ResearchResearch Grant ProgrammeANNOUNCEMENT OF 2014 GRANTEESDr Linda-Gail Bekker & Dr Françoise Barré-Sinoussi The implementation of CIPHER is possible through an unrestricted grant from ViiV Healthcare. The content and structure of the project is guided by paediatric experts convened by the IAS.

CIPHER Grant Programme Aim • Address targeted priority clinical and operational research gaps in paediatric HIV • Support evidence-informed clinical, policy and programmatic decision making • Support early-stage investigators • Research in resource-limited settings Grants • Up to US$75,000 for up to two years ($150,000 maximum) • First round launched at AIDS 2013 • 146 Letters of intent received, 24 short-listed • US 1 million awarded to 7 grantees in 2013! • 2 additional grants awarded in 2014

The Collaborative Initiative for Paediatric HIV Education and Research (CIPHER) is pleased to launch a new round of PAEDIATRIC HIV RESEARCH GRANTSApplications for the 2015 round open from 1 to 31 October 2014 Clinical or operational research projects designed to optimize HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for infants, children and adolescents in resource-limited settings For early-stage investigators Up to US$75,000/year for up to two years (US$150,000 maximum) www.iasociety.org/cipher.aspx CIPHER is made possible with the support of an unrestricted educational grant from ViiV Healthcare. The programme is guided by experts in paediatric HIV convened by the International AIDS Society.

  6. 2014 CIPHER Grantee: Eric McCollum Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, USA Bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment in hospitalized African infants failing standard pneumonia care in a high HIV prevalence country
