  20. Multi-State Licensure Compact During the November Board meeting, these concerns, relative to the “Compact”, were expressed: • Fingerprints and background checks are not required in 14 states, and 5 of these states are currently in the” Compact”.

  21. Compact • Enforcement of disciplinary actions varies from state-to-state. • Educational standards are not the same in all states. • Continuing Education requirement is not required in all states.

  22. Compact • Fiscal Impact: • The 2012 Survey of registered Nurses in California, published in October, 2013, documents that nearly 15 percent (52,978) of RNs with active California Licenses live in other states. There would be a loss of $7,948,050 ($7,416,920 for renewals and $529,780 for the RN Scholarship Program) each renewal period.

  23. BreEZe The Department of Consumer Affairs’ New Computer System went “live” with the Board of Registered Nursing on October 8 2013. This system will allow for consumers, applicants, and licensees to acquire more online information once fully implemented.

Create a logon and follow the progress of the complaint. • A logon is not required to file a complaint, although without one, following the progress of the complaint filed is not possible.

  26. BreEZe The BRN has experienced technical issues since the roll-out of BreEZe. The BRN has been working closely with DCA Executive staff and the BreEZe team to address the issues.

  27. Department of Consumer Affairs The BRN has requested and will be receiving additional temporary staff from DCA to assist with the processing of renewals and applications. Additional staff has been made available to the BRN February 14 – March 7, 2014 to assist with this task.

  28. BRN STAFF The staff has been working in the evenings and on the weekends in an effort to reduce the time it takes to license an applicant, and to reduce the backlog that exists. BRN has trained 6 additional BRN and 4 DCA staff to evaluate applications.
