Requires jobseeker to register, set job alerts via email and apply. E.g. Prospects.ac.uk, Milkround.com, Jobsite.com, Jobs24.com, Cityjobs.co.uk Specific Job Sector Websites: Sector targeted websites. E.g. Caterer.com (Hospitality), Charityjob.co.uk (Charity), Jobs.ac.uk (Academic), Inretail.co.uk (Retail) Company Websites: Specific Company Website Career Sections E.g. NHS.co.uk, Tesco.com, Natwest.com The Labour Market

The Labour Market The Sources of Vacancies Recruitment Agencies Two processes of registration: A)Online Recruitment Websites: Registration online, setting a filter for preferred job goals, job alert emails will be sent. Recruitment consultants will match vacancies based on keywords when sourcing candidates. E.g. Reed.co.uk, Hays.co.uk, Ranstad.com B) High-Street Agency Registration Registering to high-street agencies with a recruitment consultant via an appointment booked by walking in or via phone. Some agencies specialise in certain sectors. E.G Reed, Office Angels, Adecco, Manpower, Brook Street

Therefore, cold calling employers, industrial drops, and speculative CV mail-outs are an important job-seeking technique to target the ‘Hidden Market’. Newspapers/Magazines The ‘Oldschool’ method of applying for vacancies via the media is still important for locating local jobs. E.g. Local Guardian, Recorder and the Metro.

  6. The Importance of atailoredCV… A curriculum vitae (CV) is a written description of your work experience, educational background and skills …Basically, a tool to SELL yourself to employers. It needs to highlight your main experience, qualifications and skill set that is relevant to the job you are applying to. For every job sector you should generally change the Personal Profile Section/Key Skills of your CV to meet the requirements in the advert.

PERSONAL PROFILE A small summary of your CV that is tailored to the job you are applying for • 1st Line: About your relevant qualifications and experience • 2nd Line: Sum up your Key Skills which match the competencies required in the job description • 3rd Line: Tell them what job you are looking for and why

  8. KEY SKILLS • 5/6 bullet points to show your main selling factors for the position you are applying for. • May change each time you apply for a different role • Consider experience, qualifications, management/supervisor experience, relevant IT skills/typing speeds, performance statistics
