Grant Committee • Functionality of web-site to provide “funding list • Fellowship scholarship list – develop list of funding opportunities, contact to develop list: State, regional national – also content to consider: Who to talk about in writing a grant?, How to write a successful grant?, Examples of funded projects, identify “mentors” to visit with • Funding list including: Due date, link to RFA, abstract e.g., user test, beta test • Updating 2wks – 1month • Searchable, sign up for notification on mailing list for updates to list • Q- do sites already have user arch? • Building grant teams and discussion board

Would this dilute the impact for WSSA? • What will be the style / tone of the new journal? • Do we restructure our membership fee to allows members to chose journals? • What are initial start up costs/qs for Bplan? Can WSSA cover this cost? • What is the cost to WSSA if we do not invest in a new journal? • Can Vanelle’s brother-in-law help with the business plan? University b-schools looking for ideas for course projects? • Existing contract with ACG for the 2 current journals • Do we have enough reviewers? • How do we get “sexy” into WSSA – how do we frame interest foor the younger audience? • Selling to membership • Risk avoidance • Another group is already doing this

Committees develops lists of topics and invites written lists of topics (for ex. through newsletter); poisonous plants, invasive plants linked to wildlife population center • Monographs are placed on educational resources page of WSSA website • Develop contacts with local Science writers to place news articles for normal folks • Ext. com. to solicit input on existing presentations • Media training – Offer AIBS media training at Natl. Mtg. • Define potential outlets for media reports (e.g. weather allergy reports) • Press releases (Am Inst. Of Bio Sci) coordinate press releases • Increase frequency of press releases • Weekly mention of invasive species in news outlets • Gravity of invasive species is increased

PR Comm does a few each week. • Use website for uploading interesting stuff to a media page • President to approve press releases • PR Committee? • What’s their role exactly? • Who is the target audience? • Will people contribute? • What outside resources are available and at what cost? • What if we don’t do this? • What’s our continued relevance? • US

Directors to offer services • DOS creates lists of herbicide chemical families that EPA will work on in next 3 years. • WSSA puts out call to membership for volunteers for Re-Reg decisions • WSSA involved as a full partner in EPA re-registration on Chemical Families

Div. Staff • Science Policy Committee adopts an EPA staff position in Reg. Div. as an objective • WSSA creates a rotating position that promotes individuals for the position • We have a terrestrial WS on the EPA staff and available to Lee for NI??? ???
