  2. History University of Warsaw was founded in 1816. The newly-formed University consisted of the following faculties: Law,Medicine, Philosophy, Theology, Sciences and Fine Arts. From the beginning, the history ofUniversity of Warsaw has been closely linked to the history of Warsaw itself and in great measure – the history of Poland, even in times of partitions, wars and national uprisings. Also in the most difficult times for Poland, the Universitywas a major center of nation’s intellectual lifeand independent thought.

History The political and economictransformation that began in Poland in 1989 resultedin rapid development of higher education, opening up new opportunities but also challenges for University of Warsaw. Thanks to the high standards of research and teaching, University of Warsaw has earned its international distinction as Poland’s leading university.

  4. University Today University of Warsaw is the largest public university in Poland and one of the most respected universities in Polandat the same time. University, known for its research and academic staff, offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies, organizes summer schools, postgraduate studies and vocational courses, initiates interdisciplinary programs and introduces new teaching techniques.

  9. Every year, almost 45.000 young people compete for the students card of University of Warsaw on full-time studies, almost 15.000 compete for part-time studies. Around 18 thousand young people succeed and become students of the University. Students Total number of students in 2006: 65,462 full-time: 30,755 part-time: 25,878 post-graduate: 6,574 PhD candidates: 2,255

International co-operation University of Warsaw pursues a broad and varied international co-operation which can be measured by bilateral agreements with 158 partner institutions of higher education in 49 countries and ca 300 Erasmus program partner institutions. Currently, University of Warsaw actively collaborates with universities and other academic institutions on 5 continents. More than 1000 foreign students are hosted here each year.
