  2. How much of my grade is made up of Close Reading? • This will account for 40% of your final A,B,C or D grading. • You will also have to pass a Close Reading NAB in the course of the year.

Reading the Passage You read the passage to: • Understand what the writer(s) are saying Understanding - U • Analyse the choice of language, imagery and structure to recognise how they convey their points of view and contribute to the impact of the passage. Analysis - A • Evaluate how effectively they have achieved their purpose. Evaluation - E

  4. The Four Articles We shall look at four articles over the next few weeks: • Passage 1 – Understanding • Passage 2 – Analysis • Passages 3 & 4 - Evaluation

  5. Understanding • Main point of each paragraph • Difficult word from each paragraph. Explain the meaning / show how the context helps you understand

  6. Analysis • Sentence Structure • Word choice / Imagery • Tone

  7. Evaluation (2 Passages) • Are you more convinced by the ideas of which passage? • Are you more impressed by the Writer’s Style in which passage?
