Lecture Objectives • Understand common programs that are used • Determine which graphics programs to use in various multimedia projects, including draw, paint, and 3-D programs • Understand how graphics and animation programs are used in multimedia projects and discuss their capabilities • Identify tools used to handle video in multimedia projects and discuss their capabilities, and how they capture, process and compress video.

  3. Introduction • Tools used for creating and editing multimedia elements on both systems (Windows and Macintosh) support authoring systems • They support paint, image processing, image editing, drawing and illustration, 3-D and CAD, OCR and text editing, sound recording and editing, video and movie making, and various utilitarian housekeeping tasks.

  4. Text Editing and Word Processing Tools • The better your keyboarding or typing skills, the easier and more efficient your multimedia skills would be.

Compressing Movie Files 3 basic methods • Compression ratio – represents size of the original image divided by the size of the compressed image • Image quality – either lossy/lossless • Lossy – schemes ignore picture information that the viewer may not miss • Lossless- preserve original data, higher compression ratio, lower quality of the decompressed image
