  3. 1. Introduction to Logistics English • A) Logistics • Planning, doing and controlling (management) the movement (flow) of People, Materials, and Information from one place to another according to schedule and condition.

Introduction to Logistics English • B) Supply Chain Management (SCM) • Planning and managing all activities needed to locate, procure, and convert, goods (or materials), services, and information within and between companies. SCM deals with controlling and connecting a series of events to get desired results.

  5. 1. Introduction to Logistics English • C) 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) • A company that offers outsourced or specialized / dedicated logistics services to other companies for part, or sometimes all of their supply chain management function.

  6. D) Several areas (fields) of Logistics Each part of the logistics industry is a little different. Some areas focus on focus on moving resources to the places they are needed efficiently and other areas focus on financial information and processing data to allow people to make good decisions. Each of the following logistics fields is growing and changing.   7. 2. The 13 INCOTERMS • A) The 13 INCOTERMS are a standard, list terms that make international trade easier and help traders in different countries understand each other. INCOTERMS describe the Costs, Risks, and Obligations of Sellers and Buyers while trading internationally.

  8. INCOTERMS DO... Help Complete a sale of goods Explain buyer / sellers costs, risks and obligations for delivery of goods Explain the basic terms of transportation and delivery in a short format INCOTERMS DO NOT... Apply to contracts for services (only for goods) Define contract rights and obligations (only for delivery) Give all details for transfer, transport and delivery of goods Protect buyer / seller from ‘own’ risk of loss Cover goods before or after delivery Define how to resolve breach of contracts 2.   9. 2. The 13 INCOTERMS • EXW: Group “E” INCOTERM - Departure • Ex Works (...named place) • In Ex Works, the seller / exporter / manufacturer makes its goods available to the buyer at the sellers premises (named place). Seller Buyer

  10. 2. The 13 INCOTERMS • FCA: Group “F” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Unpaid • Free Carrier (...named place) • In Free Carrier, the seller / exporter / manufacturer prepares the goods for export and then delivers them to the buyer’s carrier at the named place of departure. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • FAS: Group “F” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Unpaid • Free Alongside Ship (...named port of shipment) • In Free Alongside Ship, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and then delivers them alongside the vessel (ship) at the named port of shipment. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • FOB: Group “F” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Unpaid • Free On Board (...named port shipment) • In Free On Board, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for the cost and risks of delivering the goods past the ship’s rail at the named port of shipment. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • CFR: Group “C” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Paid • Cost and Freight (...named port destination) • In Cost and Freight, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for the cost and risks of delivering the goods past the ship’s rail at the named port of shipment, very similar to FOB. CFR only applies to ships and waterway transport. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • CIF: Group “C” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Paid • Cost, Insurance, and Freight (...named port of destination) • In Cost, Insurance and Freight, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for the cost and risks of delivering the goods past the ship’s rail at the named port of shipment. CIF only applies to ships and waterway transport. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • CPT: Group “C” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Paid • Carriage Paid To (...named place of destination) • In Carriage Paid To, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export, delivers the goods to the carrier (usually the first carrier) and is responsible for the cost of delivering the goods to the named ‘place’ of destination. The named place of destination is usually the destination frontier, terminal or quay. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • CIP: Group “C” INCOTERM - Main Carriage Paid • Carriage and Insurance Paid To (...named place of destination) • In Carriage and Insurance Paid To, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export, delivers the goods to the carrier (usually the first carrier) and is responsible for the cost and insurance of delivering the goods to the named ‘place’ of destination. The named place of destination is usually the destination frontier, terminal or quay. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • DAF: Group “D” INCOTERM - Arrival • Delivered at Frontier (...named place) • In Delivered at Frontier, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for making them available to the buyer at the named place (frontier). The named place could be place of shipment (origin) or place of destination (arrival). Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • DES: Group “D” INCOTERM - Arrival • Delivered Ex Ship (named port of destination) • In Delivered Ex Ship, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for making them available to the buyer at the named port of destination. The seller is responsible for insurance of goods. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • DEQ: Group “D” INCOTERM - Arrival • Delivered Ex Quay (...named port of destination) • In Delivered Ex Quay, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for making them available to the buyer at the named port of destination. The seller is responsible for insurance of goods. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • DDU: Group “D” INCOTERM - Arrival • Delivered Duty Unpaid (...named place of destination) • In Delivered Duty Unpaid, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for making them available to the buyer at the named place of destination, but not cleared for import. Seller Buyer

The 13 INCOTERMS • DDP: Group “D” INCOTERM - Arrival • Delivered Duty Paid (...named place of destination) • In Delivered Duty Paid, the seller / exporter / manufacturer clears the goods for export and is responsible for making them available to the buyer at the named place of destination, and the seller WILL clear the goods for import. DDP has the greatest responsibility of the seller. Seller Buyer
