  3. Le négative dans le passé To make sentences negative in the past you have to use ne and pas just like in the present. Ne and pas go either side of the first part of the verb in the past tense For example: Je n’ai pas visité mes amis. Il n’a pas mangé un sandwich. I didn’t visit my friends. He didn’t eat a sandwich. Remember that the ‘e’ in French cannot be followed by a vowel so you need to include an apostrophe in place of the ‘e’ Eg/ je + ai j’ai ne + ai n’ai
