  2. Ancient Greek Olympics • The Olympics started in Olympia in 776 BC. The games lasted for only 5 days and only men and boys could compete.

  3. Day 1:Athletes spent the day getting ready to compete.

  4. Day 2:There were chariot races. A chariot is a 2 wheeled carriage pulled by 4 horses. On the second day the athletes also ran foot races and did long jumps.

  5. Day 3: There was a big feast. Later in the day there were also foot races, wrestling and boxing for boys.

  6. Day 4:Men would do foot races, boxing ,and wrestling.

  7. Day 5:Winners were given crowns that were made of olive leaves.

  8. In the Ancient Olympics, the events that took place were mainly track and field events.

  10. In the modern Olympics, men and women can participate.

  11. Athletes come from all parts of the world to complete.

  12. The modern Olympic games last longer than 5 days. The games could last up to 21 days.

  13. The athletes complete in many events other than track and field events.

  15. Winners of the Modern Olympic games get gold,silver, or bronze medals.
