Reading • Reading Comprehension Skills focus for the year include: • Inference • Cause and Effect • Narrative Elements • Sequencing • Character Traits • Compare and Contrast • Morals • Identifying speaker • Functional Texts (letters, menus, schedules, etc).
Language • Literacy Stations/Reader’s Notebook • 6+1 Good Traits of Writing • Harcourt Grammar Skills • Cursive writing on many assignments • Daily Journal Writing • Weekly spelling patterns
Math Math Concepts included in the year are: • Number Sense • Multiplication properties, order of operations • Adding, subtracting, comparing, ordering, breaking apart fractions, decimals, percents, number lines, and ratios • Factors and multiples • Fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division • Estimating • Rounding and estimating • Data Analysis • Data and graphs along with median, mode and range concepts • Change over time in graphs and tables and making predictions
Math Geometric Properties • Points, lines, rays, segments, angles, parallelism, perpendicularity • 2D and 3D shapes • Triangles, sides, and angles • Congruent figures (slide, rotations, reflections) • 3D shapes and corresponding nets Coordinate Geometry • Ordered pairs on a quadrant • Constructing geometric figures on a coordinate plain Measurement • Elapsed time to the minute • Metric units – length, mass, and capacity with conversions • Perimeter and area
Math Probability • Theoretical, predicting outcomes Systematic Listing and Counting • Representing all possibilities • Drawing conclusions Vertex-Edge Graphs • Creating vertex-edge maps for graphs • Construct V-EGs to represent concrete situations • Solve conflicts using V-EGs and maps Algebra • Recognize, describe, create, and extend numerical sequences using all four basis operations • Create and solve one-step equations

Recess, Snack, Lunch, &T-shirts • Snack is around 10:00 every day. Please don’t forget to send one every day! Happy Birthday! • Birthday treats are always welcome! • THEY MUST BE A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE like pencils, stickers, stamps, bookmarks, etc. • Celebrations will be at the end of the day.
Homework • 40 minutes a night (including silent reading) • Packet – plan accordingly. Due on Fridays. No phone calls home if forgotten. • Spelling – Weekly • Vocabulary • Grammar • Skill of the week • Math Skill • Sign agenda every night (M-Th). Sign Tally Sheets on Fridays
Classroom Discipline • Let’s Make a JETS Choice! • Blue – Everyone starts on a blue every day to remind them to make JETS choices. • Green – 1st warning – good day • Yellow – 2nd warning – okay day • Red – 3rd warning - communiques/detention • Making good JETS choices; weekly slips • Fun Friday awarded for good behavior and completed daily work and homework • Character Education-6 pillars

Grades • Gradespeed • Parent signature required on work that receives below 70% • Progress reports are sent home mid-quarter. • Sign/return report card envelopes quarterly.
HONOR ROLL • For Students to receive Honor Roll, student must receive A and B grades in all subject areas. Honor Roll is recognized quarterly. • Perfect Attendance Awards are given quarterly. • All Exceptional Behavior grade rewards are given quarterly as well.

Field Trip/Tax Credit • Our Field Trips can now only be funded using Tax Credit monies donated by families. • Anyone can donate to tax credit… even aunts and uncles. • Tax Credit forms are attached. • Single contributions up to $200. • Married contributions up to $400. • Fourth grade field trips may include the Heard Museum, the Basha Art Museum, Arizona Historical Musuem, Arizona State Capitol, a theatrical play, as well as in-house field trips.
