Submit all additional information required by the admission office • Resume • Reference Letters • First Aid Certification • Portfolios (Fine Art/Music/Animation etc.) • Apply for Entrance Scholarships ( these are all located on the university/college websites) (RESUME) seek guidance if you can not find this information

  5. Completing Application Forms • Be careful with your name and the program/degree you are applying for; same as High School Diploma • Keep a written record of when and where you mail/emailed each application • Students are responsible to complete and return their own application • Most applications can be completed online • KEEP ALL responses from any community college/university etc

  6. NBCC INFORMATION • New Brunswick Community College application deadline is Nov. 1 • If you are applying after that date you will be disadvantaged • EARLY ADMISSIONS • Due to declining enrolment universities are recruiting earlier, do not feel pressed to get your application in early. Traditionally, high school students will apply to universities in January of their grade 12 year. Make sure you forward your grade 12 final first semester to be considered for scholarship.

  7. ONTARIO UNIVERSITIES • Ontario Universities have different application deadlines • However, there is a central application process at www.ouac.on.ca/105/ • This process must be complete first • Students applying to Ontario Universities will receive an ID (this number must be on your transcript when applying)

  8. Responsibilities of Students • Complete special forms: health, letters of reference, marks, scholarship information, and student loan form (usually available late May, June). Students need to make requests early. • Application to residence – this is not automatic. This may have to be done during the application process/or may be sent to you after your application has been completed • Keep all documents received, as well as student numbers and application number as you may have to refer to this information at a later date.

  9. Scholarships: University Entrance Scholarships: Most entrance scholarships can be completed on-line Please check the university website’s scholarship link for important scholarship information. Some universities do have separate forms to complete; check instructions carefully Send an up-to-date resume Offers from most Atlantic universities will not be made before April 1st.

  10. Scholarship • Having an up-to-date resume may be great help when filling out information for scholarships. Information on writing resumes is available at any time from the Guidance Office. • Handouts with tips on applying for scholarships are available from the Guidance Office. For information purposes, we have a list of local scholarships that were available last year which can be obtained from our office as well ( posted in May) ie. KENT • Please visit the BHS web page and look under the Guidance link for a list of scholarships.

  11. Campus Visits: Once students have narrowed your choice, they are encouraged to tour the post secondary institution they are interested in attending. If you need assistance in making visitation arrangements please don’t hesitate to discuss it with us. If a student has obtained permission from a parent or guardian, one excuse form for an absence due to school related activity can be obtained from the Guidance Office provided we have prior notification of the visit.

  12. Campus Visits • To have a successful visit • Call Ahead - While almost all schools will host walk-ins, it is to your benefit to phone a few days before a proposed visit. By doing so, a school can arrange a tour that will meet your individual interests and needs. • Bring a Family Member or Friend - An extra set of eyes and ears will be helpful on the tour and afterwards when you think about the visit. • Spend at Least a Half Day - You will be making a decision that can have lifelong implications, and what you will experience on a visit will be a very important part of that process.

  13. Campus Visits • To have a successful visit • Ask Questions - There are no bad questions. What about job placement? How safe is the campus? What support services are available? What out of class opportunities are there for students? Question sheets are available at the Guidance Office. • Look Around - Are the buildings and grounds well maintained? Do you see faculty talking informally with students in offices and on the campus grounds? Are office hours posted on the doors of faculty offices? What information is on the bulletin boards?

  14. Campus Visits • To have a successful visit • Attend a Class - If you think that you have selected a major field of study, ask to sit in on an introductory class in that discipline. If you are uncertain or a major, then ask to visit a class that all students take as they move to a decision.

  15. Once you visited a college/university, made a decision of where it is you want to go, and made application to that school, you may receive one of the following responses from that school:

  16. Examples of Responses You May Receive • Conditional Acceptance - “Yes” we have a place for you providing you maintain your present academic standing – do well on your school work.” – fill in request form to send final marks. • March Progress - “We are not sure we can accept you at this time. Please send next set of marks” – fill in request form to send March progress marks.
