  1. Here’s why you need dengue insurance for your family The risk of dengue fever is always high in tropical countries like Singapore. In the first week of January 2021, 195 cases were recorded in the country with 52 clusters active. These high figures from the National Environment Agency (NEA) show the importance of having dengue insurance to cope with the expenses that arise if you are diagnosed with this vector-borne disease. What is dengue fever? Dengue fever is a vector-borne disease caused by mosquito bite. It is not contagious and does not spread from person to person. The infection symptoms normally surface around 4 to 10 days after the initial bite. The symptoms can vary in severity between patients and normally include a high fever (104°F), headaches, pain in the joints, and nausea.

  2. How will having dengue insurance help me? A dengue insurance plan will give you a payout of the sum assured if you are diagnosed with dengue fever. This lump sum can be used to pay for any expenses that you might face during the course of your treatment. For instance, if certain costs exceed the limits of coverage of your hospitalisation insurance plan, the payout from your dengue insurance can be used to meet the overflow of expenses. Or, you can use the payout to help you manage the costs incurred due to compulsory co-pay in hospitalisation insurance. This way, your savings stay intact and untouched during your illness. Remember that being diagnosed with dengue fever can see a patient get hospitalised for treatment – having financial assistance from insurance can truly prove handy at this point.

  3. When buying dengue insurance, look for a plan that also gives you added benefits like daily hospital cash. Some of the best plans give you a daily allowance of around S$200 up to a certain number of days if you are hospitalised due to dengue fever. You may use these funds as you deem necessary. Insurers in Singapore are also known to pay out a death benefit to the nominee if the insured individual passes away due to dengue fever. Is dengue insurance affordable? Yes, you will be glad to learn that buying a dengue insurance cover plan in Singapore is quite affordable. Some of the plans cost just about S$5 for coverage that lasts 3 months. Considering the benefits of dengue insurance that we just read in the previous section, that price is indeed quite a good deal. Plus, applying for coverage is super easy – some insurers even let you buy your plan on their health apps. A few taps on your smartphone and you get instantly covered against the mosquito menace!
