  1. The Sahara desert By: Hassan odeh 6A

  2. What is the Sahara desert ? • The Sahara desert is the biggest desert in the world. It is 3,000 miles long and 1,050 miles wide. This desert is from a long time ago before the 17 century. There are a lot of people that live in that area so if some one goes there he/she will have to pay and the person that you give the money for he/she needs to pay the people that you are going through their land. • http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/desert.htm

  3. Here is the Sahara desert in the map. • http://www.google.com.qa/imgres?imgurl=http://www.hotelyasminamerzouga.com/imagens/sahara-desert-map.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.hotelyasminamerzouga.com/sahara-desert-morocco-africa.html&usg=__mn4lY20omzWAVwYCnsIxOSM8GfQ=&h=213&w=450&sz=21&hl=en&start=3&zoom=1&tbnid=1H2wgYgRtCtZxM:&tbnh=60&tbnw=127&ei=8J4fT_XCI4uciQfA9PjmDQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dthe%2Bsahara%2Bdesert%2Bon%2Bthe%2Bmap%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D680%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1

  4. What is the climate on that desert? • There is parts on that desert that are very hot and the degree can reach 60°C , 65°C and there are part on that desert that are very cold. One in southern Algeria 18 of February 1987 it snowed there so the snow fell in the Sahara desert the snow storm lasted for about half an hour and in a few hours the snow had melted off the sands. • http://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=Cqrft75cfT8KOPIz0rQfxrZ21DuWB2l3tt6X_BKHi1awJCAAQAVCshay1BGD7BKAB0YOI_wPIAQGqBBtP0OecxUgWukGLoGbNgu7w6IzDmqxaQdc1dh0&ved=0CAsQ0Qw&val=ChAwY2E4OWJkNmQ0NmMyYzZiEP3X3PMEGgjOH0-dTvyNfSABKAAwoNybhMjH8tOUATj919zzBED919zzBA&sig=AOD64_2kd6KRrunP89JTvQA2mrHwclkH7Q&adurl=http://www.ashoka.org/environment

  5. What kind of animals live there? • There are not a lot of animals in the Sahara desert there is simple and few. There is camels and reptiles. Camels live there because camels have lot’s of fat so they can stay without water for a long time and when they get thirsty they suck water from their fat. • Horses live there to because when they people there used to travel they used to use them for transportation. They where in the shad until they use them. They had water and food every day so they had a good life but it was kind of hot for them.

  6. The last animal that lives there is the reptiles. Reptiles are very dangers they live in the bushes and plants so no one can see them they also live in rock and holes and they are used to the hot bright sun. • There are many plants in the desert the first and common plant is the cactus this plant does not need water because it sucks from the ground water drops and stores it in its body so when it needs it. It can get it. If you tried to touch it you will get hurt because it is spiky.

  7. The next plant is called brittlebush this plant is yellow and it grows 2,5 feet high in the summer and spring then in the winter it starts to die. The leaves on that bush are covered with spikes and pointy edge. • The last plant is called Ocotillo this plant lives next to rocks and wet sand. This kind of plant is 5,000 feet. It grows to the temperature 90°F. This plant has thick layers over the leaves so it can grow. • http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/desert_plant_page.htm

  8. The abiotic factors • The temperature in the Sahara desert is very hot. It reaches 70°C. All dry deserts have high pressure zones which cold air descends. Then the descending air gets warm but instead of releasing rain it starts to evaporate and it can not rain there. It rain in the Sahara desert a lot of times but after the rain stops the water get evaporated back into vapor so the desert is dry again.

  9. How is this affect the economy? • There is many ways that the Sahara desert can related to the economy. One of the ways are under the sand their might be oil so if the people use that oil they can get more money to develop the world. Another relation ship is the whether is very hot there and solar system can help them and they get energy from the sun so they don’t need to pay a lot of money for electricity. • http://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=Cqrft75cfT8KOPIz0rQfxrZ21DuWB2l3tt6X_BKHi1awJCAAQAVCshay1BGD7BKAB0YOI_wPIAQGqBBtP0OecxUgWukGLoGbNgu7w6IzDmqxaQdc1dh0&ved=0CAsQ0Qw&val=ChAwY2E4OWJkNmQ0NmMyYzZiEP3X3PMEGgjOH0-dTvyNfSABKAAwoNybhMjH8tOUATj919zzBED919zzBA&sig=AOD64_2kd6KRrunP89JTvQA2mrHwclkH7Q&adurl=http://www.ashoka.org/environment

  10. How does this affect the environment. • If they start using solar system in that area they will take a lot of spaces for he animals to live and then they will not live there and leave. If they start dig for oil and gas and they find that there id they might start getting more trucks and getting more people to start getting oil out so they will rune the whole desert. • All about the deserts/ peter rider/ 2009/2010

  11. Human activities Us as humans destroy the deserts by building roads through them. We through our garbage in the desert. We have military training there. We build buildings. We use lot’s of water. We drive through them so we destroy there habitat and there vegetation and we destroy the plants around us. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=belnap-degradation-desert-topsoil-human-havoc-environment

  12. Humans take lots of things from the desert the take oil gas sand solar system heat from the sun e.t.c. Humans caused lots of damages in the desert the first thing is the use the whole space there to use solar energy. They should only use a small space so they can leave the rest for the animals. • All about deserts/peter rider/2009/2010

  13. What we take from the desert is useful for us and all the people in the world. When we take oil from there is to make our country more rich and to make it stand out in the other countries. We also take solar energy from the desert because in the desert the weather is very hot and the sun light is strong and when we take that from the desert we want to save money and not burn lots of fossil fuels in a day. • All about deserts/peter rider/2009/2010

  14. Humans affecting the Sahara desert. • Humans effect the world in many ways. But there is one way that effect’s all kinds of biomes and the is…. Car pollution when a car let’s out carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and led dioxide. These kinds of gases badly effect our atmosphere. http://www.slideshare.net/mash1608/hot-deserts-presentation-834010
