  2. THE GIFT OF SALVATION CONDITIONAL OR UNCONDITIONAL?

CAN A GIFT BE CONDITIONAL AND YET REMAIN A GIFT? • SOME SAY THAT SINCE SALVATION IS BY GRACE : Ephesians 2:5 • That is (AN UNEARNED/UNMERITED FREE GIFT). • “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” Ephesians 2:8 (KJV) • IT MUST BE TOTALLY UNCONDITIONAL. • THE REAL QUESTION IS: • IS THIS TRUE?

  4. AN ILLUSTRATION • FAMILY NEEDED A CAR - HAD NO MONEY. A FRIEND HEARD OF THE NEED - • MADE PLANS TO GIVE THEM A CAR. • FRIEND SAID, “MEET ME AT CAR LOT, SIGN PAPERS, PROMISE TO CHANGE OIL REGULARLY - DRIVE IT HOME.” • WAS IT A GIFT? • WERE THERE CONDITIONS? • DID THE FAMILY EARN THE CAR? • SUPPOSE THEY HAD NOT MET THE CONDITIONS?

AN OLD TESTAMENT EXAMPLE: • JOSHUA 6:2 - “And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I havegiven into thine hand Jericho...” • VERSES 3-5 TELL US WHAT GODREQUIRED OF THE PEOPLE • THE CONDITIONS UPON THE GIFT! • VERSE 16 - DAY SEVEN (BEFORE THE WALLS FELL) – • “Shout; for the LORD hathgiven you the city.”

  6. Old Testament Example – Cont. • JOSHUA 6:20 - “the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, • so that the people went up into the city... AND THEY TOOKTHECITY.” • WAS JERICHO A GIFT FROM GOD? • WERE THERE CONDITIONS? • WHAT POWER CAUSED THE WALLS TO FALL? • MARCHING? SHOUTING? • DID THE PEOPLE EARN THE CITY? • IF THEY HADN’T MET CONDITIONS?

  7. WHAT ABOUT SALVATION? • IT IS A GIFT FROM GOD! • CONDITIONAL? • EPHESIANS 2:8-9 – • “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. • GOD’S GRACE SUPPLIES! • OUR FAITH APPLIES!

DOES “FAITH” STAND ALONE AS A CONDITION OF SALVATION? • FIRST, WE MUST UNDERSTAND THE “KIND” OF FAITH GOD REQUIRES. • WHOLE-HEARTED, OBEDIENT, • TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN GOD AND HIS WILL! • THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO! • ROMANS 1O:17 – “Faith Comes By…” • JAMES 2:14-26 – “can faith save him?...” • HEBREWS 5:8-9 – “learned he obedience”

  9. GOD’S CONDITIONS OF OUR SALVATION…. • A BELIEVER MUST ALSO: • REPENT OF SINS • LUKE 24:47; ACTS 2:38 • CONFESS FAITH IN CHRIST • ROMANS 10:9-10 • BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS • ACTS 2:38; 22:16 • LIVE FAITHFULLY • REVELATION 2:10
