  1. Hybrid Bit-stream Models (Sep 2007 Ottawa)

  2. Basic Ideas • Using information extracted from bit-stream data, it may be possible to develop better perceptual models in term of speed and accuracy. • Many difficult problems (registration, transmission error) can be efficiently addressed.

  3. Advantages • All transmission errors can be accurately identified along with their effects. • Registration is not a problem. • Fast and efficient.

  4. Generally agreed block-diagram (May 2007)

  5. Presentations • NTT (3) • Telchemy

  6. Models • Hybrid (PVS+bit stream info /FR/RR) • PNAMS

  7. Inputs to the model • Text file (Hybrid) • Tekronix products(maybe), NTT(?) • Raw bit stream data (Bitstream/Hybrid) • Codecs: H.264, MPEG2 • Bit stream data format: • Procedure to address unrecognizable bit-stream data by some proponents:

  8. Summary of Decisions 2007/9/13

  9. Inputs to the model • Text file (Hybrid) • Raw bit stream data (Bitstream/Hybrid)

  10. Scope • Two formats • QVGA/VGA • SD/HD

  11. Codecs & transport systems • Codecs: H.264, MPEG2, MPEG4-Part2, VC1(?) • Transport systems • H.264-RTP • H.264-MPEG2TS • MPEG2-TS (MPEG2 or H.264) • VC1-RTP (?) • MPEG4 multiplexing • Note: We need programs which produce and analyze bit-streams.

  12. Subjective Test • ACR w/ HRR (tentatively) for both QVGA/VGA and SD/HD • ILG does as little as possible, only what is necessary to ensure fairness for all proponents

  13. Test Conditions • Test condition and source pool. • The test conditions and source pool of MM will be used whenever it is possible.

  14. Model Types • Model types • Hybrid models (FR/RR/NR) • bitstream (PNAMS)

  15. Interested (as of May 2007) • Interested: IRCCyN, FT, DT, NEC, KDDI, NTT, Witbe, QualiDeo, Yonsei, Spirent, Ghent University, Verizon, BT, Psytechnics, Opticom, NTIA, Intel, Acreo

  16. Proponents • Hybrid (4) • NEC, Yonsei, SQ,OPTICOM, • Bitstream (2) • Telchemy, NTIA(?), • Both (5) • KDDI, NTT, BT, Psytechnics, Tektronix(A+B?), • Unknown • FT(?), DT(?), Witbe(?), QualiDeo(?), Ghent University(?), Toyama(?)

  20. Decisions • (Decision) Monitoring point: at the receiver • (Decision) One reference decoder will be used for each codec. • (Decision) Capture file format & program for bit stream data • PCAP, www.wireshark.org (open source), tcpdump(?) • Reference decoder to ensure error-free bit stream compliance to the standard (open source) (final decision to be made soon) • Open-source H.264 codec (JM) • Open-source MPEG2 (FFMPEG) • Open-source MPEG4 (Momusys?)

  21. Decisions or Schedule • Representative streaming server • Dvbstream (?) • VLC (www.videolan.org) • Helix (Real Networks, open source) • Darwin (open source, www.opensource.apple.com) • Live555 (H.264 over RTP, MPEG2TS): open source • (Decision) One or two servers will be chosen after some study. Target date: Dec 31, 2007. • (Decision) Representative bit stream data: Nov. 30, 2007?

  22. Schedule • Proposal for IP analyzer: next VQEG meeting (est. Feb 2008) • Finalization of IP analyzer: 3 month after the next VQEG meeting • Finalization of testplan: next VQEG meeting (est. Feb 2008) • Submission of parsing programs to ILGs: three months after the final testplan • Model submission: Six months after the final testplan (est. Oct 2008)
