  5. What is the difference between skills and knowledge?

  6. How do I demonstrate I have the skills and knowledge? You will be given a task (an outcome) to do Literature essay Story/Personal narrative Oral presentation Analysis Feature article Etc.

  7. Two questions are asked about the Outcome: 2. How good is this piece of work? A+ A B+ B . . . E UG 1. Does this work satisfy the requirements of the Outcome? Yes or No?

  8. What if the work fails to meet the Outcome? Do I fail?

  9. NO You are given the opportunity to re-do the task.However, you only get ONE chance to re-do each Outcome.

  10. You need to pass all the Outcomes to pass the Unit. Unit 1 Outcomes: Outcome 1 – Reading and responding: • To respond in written and oral form to the text, Gattaca Outcome 2 – Creating and presenting: • To study The Killer’s Tears • To produce three pieces of writing for specific forms, purposes and audiences Outcome 3 – Using language to persuade: • To analyse how language and visual images have been used in a non-print and present your analysis in an oral presentation

  11. You need to pass three units of English/EAL to get your VCE. Unit 2 Outcomes: Outcome 1 – Reading and responding: • To respond in written and oral form to the text, Stolen Outcome 2 – Creating and presenting: • To complete tasks on the Context of Identity and Belonging • To study some passages from The Mind of a Thief • To produce three pieces of writing for specific forms, purposes and audiences Outcome 3 – Using language to persuade: • To produce a written analysis of how language and visual images have been used in a persuasive text & • To present an oral presentation giving your point of view on a current media issue.

  12. You’ll also sit an exam at the end of each unit.

  13. Holiday Homework… • To stay informed of issues in the Australian media by reading the newspaper and watching current affairs programs on TV or online • Read The Killer’s Tears. Keep a list of new words, which you have translated into your preferred language
