  2. Your associates determine your attainment

  3. Matthew 7:15-20 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

  5. Main Idea As a disciple you must dictate who directs you. (influencers)

  6. How to dictate your influencers Be aware that influencers are often not what they appear to be (vs. 15) Look closely at the impact of influencers lives (vss. 16-18, 20) Influencers who don’t honor God will be judged by God (vs. 19)

  7. Why do I need to be discerning about who influences me? 1. Be aware that influencers are often not what they appear to beWatch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves – Matthew 7:15

  8. Pseudo: Not actually but having the appearance of; pretended; false or spurious; sham.

  9. “The prophets follow an evil course and use their power unjustly. Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find wickedness,” declares the Lord.14”And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible: They commit adultery and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of evildoers….They are like Sodom to me.” Jeremiah 23:10b-11, 14

  10. How can I know what to believe about an influencer?2. Look closely at the impact of influencerslives By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.

  11. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

  12. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5:22-26
