    4. DOE Expectations DOE expectations and approach for risk assessment in nuclear safety should be designed: To ensure that the effectiveness of existing practices is maintained. To promote use of risk assessment methods within the framework of a risk informed decision process that combines deterministic and probabilistic insights. To allow line managers to decide (on a case-by-case basis) whether development of probabilistic assessments are feasible and add value to the decision process. To ensure consistent and proper use of risk assessment methods in support of important safety decisions.
