Tunnel Tracing

This document outlines the requirements and proposed solutions for a Generic Tunnel Tracing Protocol (GTTP) designed to enhance the tracing of tunnels within a network. It covers both nested and heterogeneous tunnels, ensuring compatibility across different data and control planes. The proposal operates in multiple phases: the first phase identifies the top-level IP path, while subsequent phases may uncover supporting tunnels. The GTTP solution includes secure, stateless operation with probes that provide detailed responses, offering more information than traditional ICMP messages.
