  1. The Homecoming Mark 6:1-6 Matt 13:54-58

  2. A Homecoming • 1 Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue.

  3. Acknowledging the Wisdom and the Miracles • And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!

  4. A Homecoming • 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him. • 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”

  5. Offended siblings • Why were they offended? • From a human point of view He is no one special. • Their own sin (jealously) blinded them

  6. Familiarity breeds Contempt • Don’t be surprised if members of your own family is offended by your faith. • There are no neutral heart responses to the gospel:2 Cor 2:14-16 • we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved OR • The aroma of death among those who are perishing • Christ’s family acknowledged the miracles but not the source of the miracles

  7. Ordinary People and An Extraordinary God • God has chose the weak to shame the mighty (1 Cor 1:27-29) • Selection of the King from Jesse’s sons1 Sam 16 • All present pass by Samuel, none are select • Samuel: “Are these all the sons you have?” • Jesse: “There is still the youngest, He is tending the sheep”

  8. Amazing Unbelief • 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith. • The power of Unbelief • James 1:6-8

  9. Miracles asked in Faith • Ask • Don’t waiver in unbelief • Keep Believing • Miracles don’t lead to faith, faith leads to miracles.

  10. Press on… • “6 Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. “ • Preach the gospel to others don’t just focus on your own family • Join God where you see Him working
