  3. Total length of electrical lines – above 1 000 000 km Total number of transformer substations – above 200 000 Number of step-up substations 35-750 kV – 5 360 Total installed capacity of transformers – 157600MVA Total number of circuit breakers – above 113000

  4. Generation Capacity of Ukraine Total annual production is above 185 mln. MW*h Installed capacity of power plants is above 52 mln. kW 5 TPP Generation Companies - 14 TPPs, 97 units (800-150 MW) 1 NPP Generation Company - 4 NPPs, 15 units (1000- 440 MW) 1 HPP Generation Company - 8 HPPs, 90 units (117 - 19 MW) 3 big CHP - 9 units (250 – 100 MW)

Main Tasks • provision of integrity of Ukrainian IPS; • provision of operative-technological control of Ukrainian IPS with a provision of optimal modes for operation within Wholesale Electricity Market; • provision of synchronous operation of the IPS of Ukraine with power systems of neighboring countries as well as implementation of special schemes for power transmission to these countries; • prevention and liquidation of network disturbances and system accidents; • - provision of operation and maintenance of the backbone network and means for IPS of Ukraine control.

  9. November 1-3, 1995 – initial meeting of UCTE experts with Ukrainian specialists in Lviv. January 1996 – first meeting of the Technical Committee UCTE/CENTREL/Ukraine. 1995–1997 - elaboration and approval of the Catalogue of Measures on integration of the «Burshtyn TPP Island» toUCTE/CENTREL. 1999 –Agreement on long-term physical delimitation of Burshtyn TPP Islandfrom IPS of Ukraine was signed. April 6-20, 2002 – tests and 2 weeks trial operation of the «Burshtyn TPP Island» before connection to UCTE power system. July 1, 2002 –«Burshtyn TPP Island» was switched on one year trial parallel operation with UCTE. July 1, 2003 –Constant operation of «Burshtyn TPP Island» with UCTE.   10. “Burshtyn TPP Island”. Plans for Development • Increasing of capacity of existing units of Burshtyn TPP • Modernization of switching equipment and relay systems • Increasing of power export up to 600 – 650 MW • Development of fiber-optical communication lines

  11. On the Way to Meet UCTE Requirements. Studies • Studies of the adequacy of Ukrainian normative documentation to the OH standards; • -Studies of the adequacy of the Ukrainian IPS for synchronous operation with European Power System (N-1, stability, voltage regulation, power reserve control, emergency procedures, information exchange, etc.); • -Studies of generation units to participate in primary and secondary regulation; • Studies of the electrical substations; • -Development of the Ukrainian Grid Code.

  12. On the Way to Meet UCTE Requirements. Studies to Be Finished 2006 • Development of plan-schedule for II stage of HPP rehabilitation; • Harmonization of Ukrainian energy industry legislation in accordance with European requirements; • Development of project documentation for modernization of electrical substations; • Development of plan-schedule for modernization of TPP units to participate in primary and secondary regulation; • - Development of plan-schedule for voltage control modernization.

  13. On the Way to Meet UCTE Requirements. Secondary Control - Installation of SCADA\EMS\AGC system - 400 MW of HPP is permanently under AGC control

Network Construction till 2008 • 750 kV Lines: • Rivnenska NPP - Kyivska 750 • 330 kV Lines: • N.Odeska – Artsyz • Adgalyk – Usatovo • Zahidnoukrainska – Bogorodchani • Construction of connections of Dnestr PSPP to OHL Dnestr HPP-Ladygyn TPP • Dnestr PSPP – Bar • Network modernization: • Increasing of voltage level of line 220 kV Sevastopol – Simferopol up to 330 kV • Construction of connections to line 330 kV Melitopol - Simferopol from Dgankoj substation • Installation of series capacitor on Dgankoj substation • Generation • Construction of Dnestr Pumped – Storage Power Plant • Construction of Tashlyk Pumped – Storage Power Plant
