  2. Major Challenges Migrating to Cloud and SaaS By Dennis McCaffertyon 2012-06-2 Businesses face challenges in transitioning to a fully integrated cloud computing and software as a service (SaaS) environment, according to a survey conducted by Dimensional Research and released by Host Analytics. CIOs and other top tech decision-makers overwhelmingly feel that these tools can help a company succeed, especially in delivering key solutions, such as business intelligence and analytics, at a lower cost. But they're still working out kinks with respect to data management, and it's not helping that cloud/SaaS purchases are often made without IT's input. "Businesses are investing heavily in cloud computing today," says study author Diane Hagglund, a senior research analyst for Dimensional Research. "Our research reveals high levels of optimism and expectations among CIOs and IT executives for cloud adoption and value. But hurdles include the anticipation that IT will end up operating cloud applications bought by other areas of the business without input from IT. To overcome these and other hurdles to adoption, good communication is essential, but not always existent." Nearly 350 CIOs and IT executives took part in the research.
