    6. School Board and Community A key is going to be winning over the school board. The second key is going to be helping your superintendent to catch the vision. Putting out feelers into the community, particularly through potential bond meetings, and school board meetings is essential. One approach may be to bring in presenters from schools handling similar programs so that the board can answer questions up front.

What type of support do they provide? Level 1 support issues On site repair issues Reimbursement for work done by district Questions to consider when selecting a vendor: What is their philosophy about 1-1 programs? What experience do they have with 1-1 programs? What is the financial and internal stability of the vendor? Is the vendor interesting in a partnership or just selling equipment?

Laptop Needs Laptops Lighter/Less Rugged Durable/Heavier Bags vs. backpacks Complete care warranty Be careful that you specify the warranty Be careful that you specify the battery (considered consumable) What length of time do you want a warranty for? 17. Developing a 1-1 Manual Manual needs to have clear written instructions for the program. Manual should be updated annually to meet new needs of the program. Parents should sign for receipt of the manual (student will also sign for equipment when they receive it). Fees and fines tables. Manual should be available online

    18. Distribution Process Distribution at registration? Have parents pick up manual, sign forms and pay fee at registration. Develop a schedule for teacher pickup. Setup stations to review equipment, and then sign off on equipment condition form. Allow about 3-5 days for the entire process. Give thought to early graduates. Allow for time at end of year to receive prior to or during final exams. Allow time to review units and collect fines for hardware issues that are unresolved.

    19. Making the Program Self-Sustaining/Recycling Plans Insurance fees that will cover the cost of insuring units. Fees and fines that can help with new equipment. Handling problem parents who refuse to pay Budget annually or bi-annually one grade level of units from local budget and state funds. Consider creating a district auction site to dispose of outdated equipment – Can also buy a lot of community good will. Recycle within district.

    20. Summer Activities Consider hiring high school students to help service program. Creation of Eagle Tech Academy to fill this need. Inspection and repair of all hardware issues. Reload of all laptops with clean images. Reload of all teacher laptops with clean images – Prior to end of school. Re-inventory of all laptop units. Profiling of all laptops.
