Forest Information Mall Proposal Addresses Immediate Operational Staff Needs*… District and licensee staff need: • One stop shopping to the information and systems they need to do their jobs • Transparent, scaleable, task-defined access • Access to communities of practice and user forums where knowledge and learning can be shared • One place to find the experts and contacts for questions and feedback *based on extensive consultation with district and industry field staff during Information Access streamlining team proposal development and focus testing

The “Forest Information Mall” Attributes • Build a one-stop internet-based access point (the “Forest Information Mall”) for licensee and government staff access to: • Information needed for planning and reporting • FRPA Objectives, Resource features, Inventory, etc. • All relevant MoFR and MOE, MAL systems and viewing tools • Data and systems access application process • Business Information Centre website • Business processes maps;MoFR data, systems, and organization info • Policies, legislation, guidelines, standards The mall does not duplicate data, systems or information, it enables access to existing resources

The Forest Information Mall Attributes Continued • One-stop access to: • Manuals, checklists, forms, etc. • Forestry user forums • Government staff expertise directory (“expert locator”) • Improved search engine • Help and training services • Functional user feedback for all aspects of the business

The Forest Information Mall Cont’d • The Forest Information Mall will be a single, user-friendly access point to existing websites (e.g. LRDW, BIC website, MoFR/MoE, MAL departmentalinternet sites) • The Mall will link to local (district) data sources where appropriate • e.g. FRPA FSP planning info made available by the DDM • The Mall will be organized by task grouping and program areas to create a strong business linkage between systems and the user • The development of this pointer is inexpensive and will yield great time and frustration savings
