  2. Agenda • RaDIATE News and Notes • NSUF experiment proposal • HiRadMat BeGrid Status • NBI Workshop (Sept 2014) • IWSMT Workshop (Oct 2014) • MatXWorkshop (Nov 2014) • High Brightness Workshop (Nov 2014) • ESS Milestone reached • MOU Revision Status • Status Updates • Beryllium (Slava K.) • Graphite (Nick S. & Kavin A.) • Tungsten (Chris D.) • FRIB/MatX studies (Graphite, Ti alloy; Frederique P.) • Ideas for next Technical Meetings (March & April) P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  3. RaDIATE News • NSUF Experiment Proposal • Experiment to irradiate Be at Michigan Ion Beam Laboratory to simulate NuMI beam window conditions • PI’s: D. Senor (PNNL), G. Was (Mich), S. Roberts (Oxford), V. Kuksenko (Oxford), P. Hurh (FNAL) • Pre-proposal submitted October 2 • Utilizes NE funding for facility access only (irradiation and PIE) P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  4. RaDIATE News • HiRadMat Be experiment (“BeGrid”) status • Scientific and Technical (safety) Board Reviews next week at CERN • Design by Andrew Atherton at RAL has progressed well • Talk by KavinAmmigan at NBI has good description • Current hurdles: • Strain gauge DAQ system • Be sample manufacture (witness samples late by 4 weeks) • In-situ, on-rig beam position monitoring (foils and camera?) P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  5. RaDIATE News • NBI Workshop held at Fermilab in September • Neutrino Beams and Instrumentation • Several good talks on neutrino targets • Talks available online: • https://indico.fnal.gov/conferenceOtherViews.py?view=standard&confId=8791#20140924.detailed • Upcoming Workshops: • IWSMT Workshop (Oct 2014) – Spallation Materials • http://indico.psi.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3052 • MatX Workshop (Nov 2014) – Materials in Extreme • https://indico.gsi.de/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=2924 • HB Workshop (Nov 2014) – High Brightness Beams • http://frib.msu.edu/misc/hb2014/index.html P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  6. RaDIATE News • ESS Milestone Reached • Construction started in September • Foundation Stone Ceremony Today! P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  7. MOU Status • Revision text finalized • Slight edit results in draft 6 • Still need GSI signatory information (M. Tomut?) • US DOE Labs should be submitting to site offices and then to DOE HQ for approval to sign (largest hurdle) • Then MOU signing “tour” • 12 original hard copies required? • CERN will hopefully be added in following addendum next year P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  8. Status Reports • Beryllium update (V. Kuksenko) • Graphite update (N. Simos & K. Ammigan) • Tungsten update (C. Densham) • FRIB materials studies (F. Pellemoine) P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting

  9. Technical Meeting Topics • What should be the next 2 tech meeting topics? • November: • EDXRD studies at BNL – N. Simos? • In-situ He irradiation of Be at MIAMI – V. Kuksenko? • December: • Differences in High Energy Proton irradiations and Low Energy (fission reactor) irradiations and Fast Ion irradiations (speaker?) • The effects of He gas production in metals (graphite?) (speaker?) • Other ideas? P. Hurh RaDIATE Oct 2014 Admin Meeting
